Elbubsio
Hi all, I used to do a bit of modding for fallout 4, but haven't done in a while. I've gotten the bug again, but am running into a problem getting a modified male player body mesh into the game. Here's what I've done: 1) Open outfit studio and import malebody.nif. Export as obj. 2) Open obj in blender and do whatever to it. Save as obj. 3) Go back into outfit studio, import modified obj. Import original nif the modified obj is based on (malebody.nif) and set that as reference. Copy bone weights across to modified obj mesh and then delete original nif. Export modified mesh as nif (no reference) and overwrite original nif. However, when I open the game, the mesh is nowhere to be seen. I thought at first it had gone invisible for some reason, but then noticed if I jump up and down, the new body nif is in the ground and looks very weird (elongated and misshapen like Mr Fantastic). So the question is, what have I done wrong. This is exactly the way I used to do it and it worked fine. I get the feeling I'm just missing a step in that final OS session, but can't think what. The only other thing I can think of is both FO4 and OS have been updated since I last tinkered. Could that be it? Any help gratefully appreciated. Cake will be waiting  Thanks. YouDoNotKnowMyName
I have no experience or knowledge about Outfit Stuido. But: Maybe try to run the nif through Elric before actually putting it in the game.Works for me every time. When I try and export a nif from 3DSMAX and put it directly in the game, it doesn't show up. When I run it through Elric, it just works! You can find Elric in the Tools folder of Fallout4 Edited April 12, 2020 by YouDoNotKnowMyName
Elbubsio
Hi, Thanks for that. I did have a look at Elric and couldn't even figure out how to load the obj or nif files  As I said, I'm pretty sure this is the way I used to do things and it always worked before. Just not sure why it won't now
thousande
Have you applied working material(s) before exporting from 3ds Max? Mesh/objects with no material applied are skipped in the export, I think. Does the nif render properly in NifScope?Sometimes, along the way, normals may have been flipped by some program used and it may produce undesired results. Eg. 'one sided' material applied on 'inversed' normals. Most 3d applications can fix that (check the documentation).A quick fix is to use flip normals from NifScope, but not desired if you are going to iterate on the mesh. Better tofi x this as early as possible in your flow. I _think Elric only works with the nif format. Also, Elric may need some configuration before using it. Sections of this video discusses the basics of Elric, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dKnhOF1Cp8. Also see the config files in the Elric directory.
