How to make a compatibility patch?

I find that the best place to start is FO3Edit. You can open the mods up, and look at any conflicts side by side. If it's just object conflicts, you can usually just copy them into a patch plugin and override whichever change you want (such as greater health bonus from stimpaks or different value on an item). For things like weapons you have to look more closely at each value, to make sure you know what you want or are getting the correct values.

Scripts and scripted items like quests are a bit more complex, since you can't just copy over part of a script. For those you'll have to open the patch mod in GECK (while keeping FO3Edit open). Compare the scripts in FO3Edit to each other, and copy the relevant parts into the GECK, editing the script until both mods will get along with it. This part is not always possible, and is why some mods just won't work together.
