Dark Souls Rage

I've been thinking of casting Iron Flesh and seeing if that would help in approaching the one on the left first. I think once he is down I should be able to make it to the right one and get rid of him without too much trouble.

I'm confused on how people are able to snipe these guys. No matter what I do I'm not quick enough to aim where I'd be able to hit them from behind the wall there. I think running toward them would be my best bet.

It was tough for me too, and most of it depends on blind luck. The amount of defense you have here doesn't make any real difference since one arrow will usually knock you off no matter what. Basically what I did was strip down to just a shield (in order to parry) and a reasonably strong weapon. I ran across to the midpoint and waited for them to stop shooting and return to an idle state. From there, I ran up as quickly as I could, and headed right. At this point, success was dependent on the AI switching to melee, coming around the corner and attacking me soon enough so that I could parry, riposte, bump the archer off the wall (and hopefully not follow), before getting shot in the back. This is basically taking advantage of the glitch where you have immunity frames while doing a riposte. Then dodging the next incoming arrow, running to the other side, and killing/knocking off the other (or just running like hell to the balcony). It took me atleast 15 attempts.

This section is one of the hardest in the game the first time through simply due to falling (other one being a certain boss "fight") to a point where I don't think anyone playing the game "hardcore" style has actually gotten past this point without using the rings. Even considering cheats, there really is only 2 ways to do it, aside from sniping the one on the right with a bow between shots. One being the ring of fog and dragoncrest ring, which is essentially "easy mode". The other supposedly being a friendly phantom (other player) who is already inside, places their mark on the large doors so that you can summon them, and them running in to open the door on your game. By the time you can do a second time through, you usually have those rings, or a dragonslayer bow, or both and can easily get rid of the knights from the midpoint. It is however one of those points in the game where you should just stop being concerned about how many souls you've lost, how many times you die, and just focus on the task at hand.

I was talking with a coworker of mine about an hour ago and he described a similar strategy to what you have. He essentially said it's pure chance and luck to get the guy on the right to switch to melee like you said. I'll be trying this right when I get off work this evening. Thanks for the strategy, I have a feeling this will work out better than what I was doing before.

Also. I might be jumping the gun but how far will it be before I encounter a merchant in Anor Londo or the item that lets you teleport between bonfires? I feel like I should upgrade my pyromancy flame to +10 and try and get Quelana to appear down in Blighttown before going further.

if you can, summon someone. i find most help can take these guys down.

in order to get close to the one on the right though, when you are on the ledge, when he fires his arrow, roll through it. it will go right over you. he might continue firing it, but once you are in the corner, they wont hit you. wait till he switches to sword and shield and take him down. it will take a bit as hes got good health and im assuming you dont know how to parry (i suck at it too lol)......the other archer on the left (behind you if you are facing the archer on the right) you dont need to worry. he cant hit you from his angle and he doesnt move. though if you revisit the area and wanna kill him, there is a Hero Soul (10k souls) he is guarding.

as soon as you get passed the archer there is a bonfire to your left. you are stuck there until you unlock a shortcut later in the level. as far as the warping goes, you need to beat the dreaded Ornstein and Smough. i HIGHLY recommend summoning help. there are usually always summon signs next to the bonfire i just mentioned. the level is tough, so arent the bosses, and its a common area to be invaded in. so help is best. if you go through it solo, or only manage to summon one person you can summon Solaire right before the bosses on the stairs. though i will say, ive seen his sign not be there before. im not sure what causes it to appear or not appear but yea. he doesnt do much except distract the bosses for you, which is all you need.

It wasn't luck for me, as I sniped the guy on the right and avoided the one on the left. That was with a longbow as well; it would have been easier if I'd had the composite bow since that's so much faster.

Running up towards them is easiest for most people, but I still advise you to get the guy on the left first. You can use the tower thing as cover from the knight on the right, and simply focus on the guy on the left. That's how I did it on my second playthrough.

There's not much luck involved with either strategy. Mostly it comes down to timing.

If your plan is to rush at the guy on the right first, and hope that he switches to melee, that's just luck.

Once you reach Ornstein and Smough, you're in for what's arguably the toughest fight of the game. I couldn't summon anyone at the time. Solaire didn't show up, and my connection was bad, which prevented me from getting online help. I was forced to take them solo. I recommend keeping on the opposite side of a pillar from Smough (the fat one), and then focusing only on Ornstein. Once Smough works his way around the pillar, move to another one and keep focusing on Ornstein. Once Ornstein is down, Smough is easy. They're only a threat together.

If you kill Smough first though, Ornstein can be a right pain in the ass unless you have good lightning resists and flasks remaining. The armor and spear are useful though, especially if you end up getting invaded at later points since few people anticipate the spear's power attack projectile unless you use it flagrantly. Smough's stuff is just too heavy to use on a first playthrough.

True. I always keep a shield with strong magic, lightning, etc. resistance. With my tiny amount of health it's basically a requirement, since I literally have not levelled my health once since starting the game, and I'm deep into NG+ now. Ornstein was just shaving pathetically small amounts of damage through my shield, the same with Gwyn's flame attacks. The game would be a lot tougher if I had to worry about enemies dealing significant damage through my block.

Meh, I steamrolled Ornstein and Smough. Took me about five minutes with heavy sorcery and "power within" pyromancy.

. . .on my thirteenth attempt. :wallbash:

as i said, this game is extremely easy with a shield lol.

Got past the archers finally, then proceeded to get annihilated by the silver knights until I figured out how to parry/riposte, now they're a piece of cake.

Crafted Quelag's Furysword and loving it, my only problem now is trying to kill Lautec in his realm to get the firekeeper soul and revive the girl at Firelink Shrine, but Lautec and his two other minions keep kicking my ass. I don't really wanna waste humanity to heal in his realm but so far I haven't been able to beat him.

Should I equip some heavy armor, cast iron flesh and try and burn him down or is there a general strategy to kill him? Or is it possible to come back to this portion in Anor Londo later and kill Lautec and get the soul or do I have to do it at this point in the game?

first off, Iron Flesh is near useless now. it was extremely good when the game came out, but it, and Pyromancy in general has been nerfed quite some bit. Iron Flesh is not worth it anymore. then damage you can tank with it is outweighed by the damage you could deal with a difference spell in those same slots.

and yes, you can come back later and kill him, you dont have to do it at any certain point in time, AFAIK. ive killed O&S and then gone back and killed Lautec in his world.

as far as killing him, take the Mage out first. hes the biggest damage deal and the only one who attacks from range. the other phantom is easy. isnt he a shield/spear user? (sorry been a while since ive invaded him as i just kill him off the bat now) if you can get a back stab or something on him hes very easy. and i believe he is weak to magic if that means anything to you. Lautec can be kind of difficult as he will chase you for the most part, his weapons can still damage you past the shield and he can parry you. but overall isnt too hard in himself either.
