Does anyone run Skyrim with Linux?

Does anyone here play Skyrim with Linux?

Ubuntu to be exact. I was told by a friend that since Linux doesn't eat your ram how Windows does, that it might run faster. I'm planning on keeping XP for the programs that aren't compatible with WINE (I've been researching. I am literally downloading Ubuntu now.)

I had been planning on giving Linux a try to see if I could free myself from Windows.

I saw on a youtube video that I needed to type a command but I couldn't understand the guy (lol). Could one of you kind people link me to a good tutorial or walk me through the process?

Also - will I be able to use SKSE and my existing mod (data) files or will I have to transfer my mods via stick drive?

Thanks for the info!

That's why I'm keeping Windows XP for now. I'll install on Windows and according to what i've heard, Skyrim SHOULD use my existing data file to play. If not, I have this handy thing called a stick drive to port them over. If SKSE works, I'm sure some other mod manager will be quick to follow.

Windows pissed too many people off this time.

Thanks so much for the info!

With Steam running on Linux now the time has come to start my switch!

... cause there is no way I'm giving those idiots at Microsoft money in a year...

I'm running Skyrim with PlayOnLinux (1.5.23) perfectly fine. It has a installation script included I've used for installation (DVD variant, includes Steam installation, updates etc.). All required addons (dotnet, gecko, directx etc.) are automatically installed this way. I use a HD7750 in my system. PlayOnLinux has the big advantage that you can use system wine and bleeding edge wine versions parallely without any troubles. Switching is very easy to accomplish (though you probably might want to make a backup from wineprefix directory if you intend to downgrade). My linux system is Ubuntu Precise.

I have two problems actually:

1) Setting antialiasing to a value > 0 shows only garbage value. Fiddling with registry settings as described on wine homepage did change the garbage a bit but it remained garbage

Current Solution: External forcing aliases with the AMD Catalyst Control Center (latest official fglrx-update version) did improve antialiasing, though I'm not satisfied fully (neck problems got sometimes worse sometimes better)

2) Nexus Mod Manager: This one does run but shows no interface to me.

I get a mono error related to the Mozilla.Webbrowser plugin (libgluezilla not found). AFAIR (R: Read  this was removed from the system. I believe the trick is to get the program running with dotnet rather than using mono though I have no idea how this could be accomplished currently.

Update: By installing dotnet35 package (via playonlinux) I got it somewhat better running - could make all basic configuration steps at least. "Famous" last messages were:

[POL_Wine] Error: Wine scheint abgestürzt zu sein

(The last error just in german simply says that wine seems to have crashed).
