Must-have bug fixers

Hi,

There was a nice topic on the bioware's official forum which gathered every bug fixing mod one should install in order to have a smooth run of Dragon age Origins. This thread is, however, locked and many of its treasures might be a bit outdated.

I know there are three great mods which anyone should install: Morrigan Restoration patch, ZDF Dialog fix and dragon age rules fixpack. I also know qwinn's fixpack doesn't work with the last version of DAO.

Could you please share you knowledge of any other such mods?

Not sure of your source, but I've had no problems using Qwinn's Fixpack v2.0 with DAO running the 1.05 patch.

That said, the only additional item I can think of is Dialogue Tweaks, and that one makes subjective changes to certain things that push it out of the realm of "bug-fixes".

Concur with Thandal - I've ben running Qwinn's fixpack v2.0 with1.05 for longer than I care to remember and have yet to encounter a problem...

Have to say I haven't encountered any "must have" pure bug fixes, other than Morrigan Restoration and Qwinn, although there are many excellent "add-ons" that don't correct anything things like Extra Dog Slot, Character Respec, Storage Chest, FtG Quickbar....

Here is a list I took from the community fix-it project on the official forum. The problem is I'm not knowledgeable in Dragon age quests and I don't know what they fix (DAO or Awakening?). I know they are conflicts between these mods but I don't know what the conflict is. Some of them might even be tweaks, which is acutally not the point of this topic. Nevertheless, I can't say anything for sure until I find some time to look them up. If you know some of them and what they do, please let me know.

Fixpacks:Avaraen's Dialogue Tweaks 93a

gastank's DA Rules Fixpack

ovi187's Just Another Fixpack

Terra_Ex's Morrigan Restoration Patch Dialogue Fixpack (without updates)

ejoslin's ZDF Dialogue fix (Complete Dialogue Tweaks Compatible) (without updates)

Qwinn's Fixpack

Singles fixes:

Ancient Elven Boots (DAO) ----------> conflict with qwinn and just another fixpack

Arcane Warrior Casting (DAO,cosmetic)

Armor Rune Drop (awakening)

Awakening Endgame Cutscene (awakening)

Baroness Reward (awakening)

Bergens Honor (DAO, cosmetic/tweak)

Blackblade Drop (awakening)

Bosses Killed Stat (DAO, cosmetic)

Cailian's Helm (awakening)

Cammen's Lamest Quest (DAO, main storyline broke the quest if you went to far)

Campfire Texture (DAO, cosmetic)

Ceremonial Heavy Glove (DAO, add an extremely difficult to get item to bodahn's store)

Crystal Dragon (not of fix?)

Damage Statistic (DAO, cosmetic)

Dog Find (not available anymore)

Double Strike (DAO, not covered other fixpacks)

Find Vitals (DAO) --------------------> included in rules fixpack

Golem Registry Shapers Life Reward (DAO, quest reward added to a quest)

Joining Ritual (awakening)

Law and Order (awakening)

Sigrun Quest Trigger (awakening)

Silverite Mine Stolen Gear (awakening)

Stealing -----------------------> conflict with qwinn

Sten Tent (DAO, cosmetic)

Tainted Blood (DAO) ------------------------------------> conflicts with just another fixpack and probably rules fixpack

Vigilance Appearance (awakening)

Yuriah's 3rd Store Upgrade (awakening)

mesh lightmap fixes (cosmetic)

Okay, I started looking for what they do.

Personally, I use:

FixPacks:

DA Rules Fixpack

Qwinn's Fixpack v2.0

Dialogue Tweaks

Morrigan Restoration Patch Dialogue Fixpack for DT (w/updates and add-ons)

ZDF for MRP w/DT

Single Fixes:

Ancient Elven Boots

Damage Statistic Fix (this may be redundant, since one of the other FixPacks may have addressed this.)

BlackBlade Drop Fix (DAA bug)

Sigrun Law & Order (DAA bug)

Silverite Mine Bug Fix (DAA bug, and the mod is another of Terra_Ex's)

NOTE: In the Dragon Age-series, (and unlike some other games) it's almost impossible to have mods "conflict" with each other in the sense of breaking things. When two mods make a change to the exact same element of the game, one works and one doesn't, but the game plays just fine.

The exception to this is appearance mods (including textures). Depending on exactly what's being changed, the most common problems are "invisible", or completely "black" (and occasionally "white") items. Like missing the back of your Warden's head!

Ancient elven boots conflicts with qwinn's fixpack.

Not this one: "Ancient Elven Boots Fix".

Been using it successfully along side Qwinn's for years now. :whistling:

The damage statistic fix might still be relevant. At least, there's no duplicate file with Qwinn's, Morrigan and ZDF.

Was thinking more that the "DA Rules FixPack" might have addressed this. There's so much in that one that I haven't gone back and re-read the details since I first got it!

I think you don't get what I mean. I didn't mean "conflict" as in "will screw up your game". "Ancient Elven boot fix" consists in one single file. Qwinn's fixpack actually has a file with the very same name. Since this file seems to be related to that particular chest (or boots), I assumed Qwinn's mod also added these boots back in the chest. After all, Qwinn added a lot of stuff back into the game.

Have you tried opening this chest with only qwinn's fixpack installed?

I searched the readme of DA rules fixpack yesterday for the stats fix and I didn't find it. Maybe I didn't search for the right keywords.

I also looked for compatibility issues between "DA rules fixpack" and "Just another fixpack". Since the former is highly modular (god bless his author), we might be able to benefit from both fixpacks.

edit: After removing duplicated fixes, here's what is left in the DA rules fixpack folder:

_ fix ability weapon requirements

_ fix dual wield experts with other dots

_ fix find vitals

_ fix gear minimum stat check

_ fix increase monetary gain

_ fix legion of the dead heraldry

_ fix no crushing prison friendly target

_ fix party buff on summon

_ fix shale rock barrage

_ fix weakens nearby darkspawn

I did look for duplicate tweaks but since I had already removed those I didn't like my findings won't be meaningful.

There has been some concern on the forum about "just another fixpack" making unecessary changes. "Fixed bug where spellpower was applied a -10 modifier." might be one of them, for instance.

Well... the only reason I added the "Ancient Elven Boots Fix" to my game was because even with Qwinn's applied, the Boots weren't spawning where they were supposed to. :whistling:

BTW: Nice gap-analysis of DA-Rules vs. Just Another. Wonder the result would have been if you had gone the other way. In other words, what does Just Another cover that DA-Rules doesn't?

Well, checking the other way around is a bit more tedious. From memory, I *think* these bugs aren't fixed in the DA Rules fixpak:

_ Bug fix for vanilla bug where multiple attack speed increase effects would reset to normal

It seems to be the only fix that isn't part of DA Rules Fixpack..

After careful reading, the problem is it also modifies many aspect of the game which should not have been changed. (he switched the requirements of crossbow to dexterity). He modified a couple of things in the good way (like spell aggro) but in the end I guess I won't use his gameplay tweaks.

However there are two interesting folders in "just another fixpack" which are called "unobtainable items" and "item fix", which might be worth installing (there's a file related to the ancient elven boot fix). It also fixes the repeater gloves, so you might want to remove "Fix - Repeater Gloves Proper Rapid Aim" from the DA rules fixpack if you want to give it a try.
