wolfkin15
I think a good addition to new vegas would be a gewehr 98. it is one of my favorite weapons of all time and i believe would be a good addition to the game. it could use if wonky the regular hunting rifle animations and could come with a scope and 25 rd trench magazine as it modifications. i own one irl and am aware of it being a mod for 4. but to have one in a new vegas playthrough would be pretty kick ass. if anyone has any ideas for other weapon mods please tell me. and hell i wanna try and make mods myself sometime. and if someone could tell me things i could use to capture my rifle and put it into the game as a mod that would also be helpful. thank you and hope all of you guys and gals have a very nice day! madmongo
I don't know of a full-length G98, but there's a K98 here:https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49181/ It has a scope available. Not sure about the extended magazine. (I'm sure you know this, but for the benefit of others reading this the K98 is just a shortened version of the G98). For what it's worth, I happen to own a 1943 K98 IRL (and many other rifles from the revolutionary war up through WWII).

madmongo
Mine has all of the original Nazi markings. Many K98s had their Nazi markings filed off after the war but this one is intact. The bolt doesn't match the rest of the rifle, which means it was probably captured by Americans. The Soviets would completely disassemble the rifle after capture, then after the war they would reassemble them out of non-matching serial number bits. Americans would only remove the bolt and put it in one pile and the rest of the rifle in another pile. After the war, they just grabbed a random bolt out of one pile and a random rifle out of the other and sold the lot as military surplus. I also have a Japanese Type 99 with the mum mostly intact. Since the mum was the symbol of the Emperor, it was a disgrace to surrender the rifle with the mum intact, so most mums have been obliterated or filed off. This one has a ding in it where it looks like someone took a hammer and screwdriver to it to try to deface it, but it's otherwise intact. I also have a Soviet Mosin Nagant and an American M1 Garand. The serial number for the Garand puts it towards the end of WWII but early enough that it almost certainly saw action. Anyway, regarding the topic of tutorials, weapons are not the easiest things to make since there are a lot of things you need to get right. It's easier to start with simple static objects just go get the basics of modeling and texturing. Once you get into weapons, it's easiest if you can find something somewhat close to start with. So, for example, if you were making a G98 from scratch, you would start with the hunting rifle since it already has the bolt and trigger and they are properly animated. If you replace the stock and barrel/receiver, you'll have something that looks a lot like a G98 with just a slightly incorrect bolt. If you want to make your own bolt, then you have to do everything to make it animate properly. You have two basic tools for modeling, Blender and 3ds Max. Blender is significantly more popular with modders since it is free. The versions of 3ds Max that work with FNV are not free. For texturing, GIMP is the most popular tool. Some folks use Paint.Net, which is not Microsoft Paint that comes with windows, but is a free download. Some folks use Photoshop, but that will cost you money. It's been a while since I downloaded my copy of GIMP, but back then it required a separate plugin for dds files (it's not difficult to add plugins). Paint.Net has dds support built-in. You are also going to need NifSkope, since no matter what program you use, you will still often need to go into the nif and fix things that your 3d modeling program doesn't export properly. I personally use Blender. There's a package that has the version of Blender that you'll need plus all of the nif import/export tools and NifSkope all bundled together with versions that all play nice together. If you are going to use Blender, I recommend installing from this as it will save you a lot of headaches. If you try to piece things together randomly from the web you'll likely end up with all sorts of incorrect versions that don't work with each other. This has links to all of the tools that you will need.https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Getting_started_creating_mods_using_GECK There are numerous tips and links to weapon tutorials in there as well. For what it's worth, the game engine changed very little between Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, so any FO3 tutorials that you find for weapon creation will almost certainly apply to FNV.
