ChloeCosgrove
It's pretty cool that you can chop logs and sell them for money isn't it? Well it's not enough to really be a Lumberjack. Perhaps being able to chop down trees for more logs, getting paid for cutting logs at the lumber mill, delivering logs to other towns? That to me sounds pretty cool. Lumberjack mod?! I have been trying to think of roleplay situations I could try for Skyrim and I thought being a lumberjack would be pretty cool, I've been using player.additem f (amount) for working at the lumber mill or I'll go out and hit trees with my axe then give myself some logs to sell. I'll make journeys to different towns with lumber mills to sell logs to them then the thought occurred to me that perhaps there's a mod for all of this to be script wise and it seems there isn't. So if anyone has some time and feels like making a cool mod, here's an idea for you. Basically the scripting would involve making trees act like ore veins where if you swing an axe at them they'll distribute logs. Perhaps after awhile the tree can disappear, that would probably be complicated and cause problems though so maybe not. Would also be cool if Hod and other lumber workers could give you quests to deliver logs to other cities for more coin. Or create a script where when you place a log to be cut in half at the mill you could earn x amount of money depending on the amount of logs you place. You could talk to the npc and say "I'd like to start my shift" and when your shift ends after x hours then you earn a certain amount of money for each log you dropped. I am not a modder so I don't know what it would take to do this, perhaps it's far too complicated to script all that. But it seems like it wouldn't be too hard to make trees act like ore veins, just change ore into logs. ANYWAY enough rambling, what does everyone else think about this idea of adding lumberjack roleplay to the world of Skyrim?! Wulfgar_White_Eye
It is a bit more complicated than it seems. Ore nodes have 2 meshes and an activator linked together if my memory serves me correctly from the last time I looked at it. Essentially you activate the mining position and after 9 hacks at the node it deactivates the one mesh and leaves only the exhausted looking mesh underneath. Whereas that might work for what you want, it will look rather strange to go from having a full grown tree to a stump without seeing the tree actually felled. Even if this doesn't bother you and simply adding the wood to your inventory is fine, there is still the lack of a proper animation to run while harvesting. This is the real issue. So, it is doable but doing it right is going to be difficult without a proper harvesting animation.
Strokend
It would be cool if you could get different types of logs from different regions, and then just use the forge to to turn them into regular firewood. Different logs then would be worth different amounts to different merchants. It is a bit more complicated than it seems. All that needs to be done is a side-ways sing, and if you swing an axe around it'll frequently swing from the side anyways. Figure out which animation that is and have it loop while chopping trees. redrew89
I want this just so I can knock down a couple of the trees near my player home, and open up the otherwise spectacular view. :P
Strokend
I want this just so I can knock down a couple of the trees near my player home, and open up the otherwise spectacular view. :PIt would probably come with respawning trees (You'd only chop them down to their stump, and eventually they'd refill just like cabbages and such), but having fully chopped down trees wouldn't hurt, especially if there were reforester NPCs who'd plant saplings as they travel, or sell you saplings to plant (perhaps through use of a spell that uses one up?). Hotemochick1992
I don't think the idea is as impossible as one might think. I mean look at any harvest-able items. Basically the same thing?
