Help getting started?

Recommended Posts

Greetings. l have a problem and l think its something l will have to solve myself,so l came here to ask for advice. l am useing a number of mods, but the two l am asking for help with are Dark Envoy and Dwarven Modular Automaton. My problem is that l am unable to equip the mask from dark envoy (henceforth called DE) and the pelvis from "DMA" at the same time. (whenever l try to equip one the other comes off). From DMAs mod page,it says the pieces in question use slot 49. l dont know the slot number of DEs mask, but l assume its the same. This has been the "backstory" for my question so you can understand my problem.

The questions are thus:How can l make the mask use a different slot number? What slot number should l change it to/how would l be able to know what slots other armour pieces use so l dont get more conflicts? ls there a mod that lets me change the slots in game or will l have to use the CK? How do l use the CK?

Any help is greatly appreciated. (though keep it in simple terms/explain what you mean,l have never made a mod before and dont know any of the mod makeing lingo. Also lf you link to mods, plz make sure its a SSE version, cause l only use SSE)

(to be clear both of the above items work,ie models, textures ect,l just cant equip both of them at the same time

First to figure out the slots on the gear you currently have.

Use SkyUI with SkyUI AIO Survival The latter will add a column that shows the body slots of all your gear in your in-game inventory. It adds more than that and you may find it useful enough to keep.

Second, change the slot on one of the offending pieces.

There are three places: the NIF file, the armor record and the armor addon record.

All three must have the same number. The armor and armor addon records can have additional slots if needed to hide extra portions of the body. Example a long glove might be assigned the hand slot in all three places but also include the forearm on the armor and armor addon records.

The following tutorial was written for original Skyrim but the information is still valid for SSE: https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Skyrim_bodyparts_number

Hey, to change armor slots you will need to do it in the creation kit. You will also need Nifskope to change the slot in the mesh .nif file.

You need to change the slots in the Armor and ArmorAddon forms in the Creation kit, and in the .nif files.

Here are the steps:

1 load the esp file in the creation kit. Find the armor you want to change slots for under items / armor and double click.

2 Under the Biped Object list, click on the slot that is already highlighted so that it's not anymore, then click on the new slot you want to use so it is highlighted.

3 Keep the armor box open, and Under models, double click on the model there and it will open another box with the ArmorAddon. Change the Biped Object here to the same as in the armor.

4 In the ArmorAddon box note the Male and Female Biped Model .nif paths, then click ok on the ArmorAddon and Armor boxes to save the changes. The choose file - save to save the esp.

Nif files:

5 Navigate to the .nif files noted above in your game's Data/Meshes folder. If they're not there, you may need to extract them from the mods .bsa file to your data folder.

6 open the .nif file/s. Under block list, Click the triangle to the left of the NiNode to expand the blocks.

7 Click on BsDismenberSkinInstance. Down under block details you should see Partitions.

8 Expand the partitions and double click on Body Part, then click on the triangle to the right to show the drop down list of slots, and choose the new slot you wish to use.

Because you have to also change the slot in the .nif file, there isn't a mod that can dynamically change armor slots in game. There is however a mod that shows you which slots are equipped called Mody Slots MCM: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64976/

A bsa is a compressed archive file that contains meshes, textures, scripts and the like that the mod uses. They're in the Data folder along with the esp's. If the armor nif meshes are in a bsa file, you need to extract it so you can open the nifs to change the slots.
