issues cropping armor with Nifskope

I'm trying my hand at playing with armor mods, and with a bunch of trial and error (and googling guides), i managed to recolor a weapon from red to green. Now i'm going to try the same process on some armor. However, there's some parts of the armor i'd like to crop out and i'm running into problems.

Naturally, before i experimented, i copied my nif file. When i loaded it up, i looked for the 2 dds files that i didnt want in the armor, and i removed them from the texture list, thinking they'll be cropped from the armor.

Btw, i was trying to edit the skimpified Daedric armor which someone modded to Ifrit. Was trying to crop out that backbone part of the armor and the furhide type thing around the.. uh.. pants. for lack of a better word.

Anyway, i saved the nif file under a different name keeping the original intact, and loaded up CK. Linked the AA to nif, yadda yadda yadda, then loaded up one of the actors to see how the armor change did. Needless to say, failed. miserably. The Backbone and the panty hide was still there, but without the color. It was a Lavenderish purple. Its suppose to be black/red. But its not.

Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong?

you need to remove the part of the mesh, so far you have removed the textures. dont have much experience with NifSkope so im not even sure if you can crop armor with it (unless its already split into the pieces).

Assuming that it is split up, which I would imagine it is.

click on the part of the armor you want removed, the back bone part for example.

if you are lucky it will have only highlighted the part you want removed, in which case you can just click on the highlighted Branch on the left side of the screen, and hit CTRL+DEL.

That should remove the part of the mesh you had highlighted.

If it isnt already split into the piece you want, you may need to use 3dsMax and edit the mesh yourself.

Hope this helps.

Also remember to make a backup, dont want to delete the wrong part and have no way to get it back lol.

Oops, forgot about this. I kinda figured it out. Got lucky because it was split. I ended up removing the branch entirely. Lucky me it worked so that armor is working fine now. However, i really thank you for taking the time to help me out.

My next project i'm working on has me stumped. I can crop out a part of some modded boots, but the skin is invisible. I dont know what to do to fix it. Same thing with the gauntlets. However, with the chestpiece, the skin isnt invisible. Its like when there's a 'skin model' in nifskope, the mod will work fine, but if there isnt any 'skin model', the skin will be invisible in the game. I cant figure it out.

when you say "skin model" do you mean the body? some armor pieces (the chest for example) will replace the body, gloves and boots are a little bit different, if it is a full glove or a full boot and covers all of the body part in question, you would remove the hands and feet.

meaning if you delete the part covering the deleted body part, you will need to replace the body part.

the best way to do this in my experience is to simply copy each piece over on to the hand or feet.nif file in NifSkope (you will need to make the scene root name match first though) if you dont know how to do this, Id suggest checking out this tutorial site by Nightasy.

Hope this helps.
