MisterMisfit
You know the over-the-shoulder strap that is there even when you are shirtless? I download this thong mod here: http://witcher.nexusmods.com/mods/234 Even after deleting the mod, I can't get the shoulder strap back. Please help. dragonbird
It's an old mod that doesn't seem to have been updated for the most recent versions of the game, which will be why it's causing problems. Deleting the mod should have corrected the problem. Make sure that you've deleted every file listed in the uninstall notes. If it still doesn't work, delete the CookedPC/items and CookedPC/characters folders. (Make sure you do NOT delete CookedPC itself, and if you have other mods installed, you may need to reinstall them after doing this) If it still doesn't work, verify the cache if you have the Steam version, or reinstall if you have a non-Steam version. MisterMisfit
Is there anyway to continue using the mod (I like the skin retexture) while getting the default strap back? Sorry if my questions sound so noob. I only attempted to download and use mods yesterday. Edited December 31, 2012 by MisterMisfit
dragonbird
The problem file is probably def_item_swordsteel.xml. You'd need to get a copy of the vanilla, unmodded file for the EE version of the game, compare it to the one from the mod to work out what the modder changed, and then make the same change to the EE version. That isn't as complicated as it sounds, and if you're willing to try it, I'll find a copy of the relevant vanilla files for you. The other three def_item files were also changed in EE, so you'll need to do the same with them too, otherwise you may hit some other issues later in the game (like invisible pants :) ) EDIT:These are the four vanilla files for EE.https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3716596/VanillaEE.zip Edited January 1, 2013 by dragonbird
MisterMisfit
Thank you for being the only person to respond and help. I'll try to see if I can work with the files you uploaded. I'm very noob at modding. sidenote: I deleted the items and character folder last night as well as verified the game cache on steam. After doing all that, I still get the missing chest strap on default Geralt. I wonder if the save file itself now tells the game to always load the strapless version? I'm confused. Do I have to reinstall the whole game again?
dragonbird
If you've deleted all of the files that were in the download, and verified the game cache, you shouldn't be having any more problems with this. Can you list any files in CookedPC that have the suffix .dzip? Some of these will be from the core system, but if there are extra ones, they could be leftover mods and could be a cause. Whereabouts in the game are you? And no, this isn't held in the savegame. So a full reinstall would be an option, as a last resort, but you should clear the CookedPC folder completely first if you're going to do that. Edit: Just thought of one other possibility. If you started the game on Dark Mode, was wearing DM equipment, and then dropped to one of the easier difficulties, your DM equipment would disappear. (Nothing to do with the mod, just the way that DM works.) This COULD be carried through into a savegame. MisterMisfit
I already did a full re-install (took several hours due to large download size) but the problem still persists. All the .dzip files are the ones from the core system. I don't know what to do now. I did start the game on dark mode but I am still playing on dark mode. I just got past the part where I removed the mist curse.
dragonbird
OK. Sorry, but I'm out of ideas. If you want to upload your savegame, I can try it to see if it is corrupted and I get the same error, and a screenshot of your CookedPC folder may be useful. But I can't think of anything offhand. The mod itself was a fairly straightforward one, and deleting it SHOULD have just got rid of the effects.
