hotelmariofan
So I just recently got New Vegas ultimate edition, and I of course had to install some mods before I began playing. So I installed mods (in the list below) and began to play after straightening out all (or what I thought was all) the stability issues and such. Well, now, occasionally when I die (more often than not), the game will crash. I just get the usual windows notification saying the program has stopped working, close program. But don't worry, it gets worse. The instant the game crashes, the game, or so I thought, begins to make a loud buzzing sound. It plays continuously. After I close the game and NMM, nothing happens, the loud buzzing sounds keeps on going. Did I mention it was loud? So far, the only way I can get it to stop is by restarting my PC. Now I just don't see how this could be a hardware issue since I have never had this issue with any other game. So any advice on what it could be? Zalpha
Do a stem game catche update/repair just to be safe. Run boss to see if any mods are bad or missing something... http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35999 Also when the game crashes press ctrl+shift+esc and check processes in the windows task manager, make sure the mod manager isn't running or FNV, if it is (and I am sure it is) close it by ending processes to stop the loud sound its making. This could help... http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/43567

But after searching through every process, none of them were related to FNV or NMM. Also, if I run a Steam game cache repair, wouldn't that replace or atleast change the files that my mods have edited or put in the games directory? It shouldn't, vanilla game files are in a BSA, the BSAs will be corrected if necessary, mods however are in normal folders and will be left alone. Do check you ini files afterwards if you edited them, I don't know if Steam "fixes" them but it's worth checking.

After that, it still crashes when I die(the majority of the time) and my computer continues to make a buzzing sound(that resembles a tape being rewound) until I restart it. To be specific it stops making the sound when my sound card makes that audible click that it makes when the PC shuts down or starts up. At that point, the loud sound stops. I've never had this problem with any other game, or in general. I just can't think of what could be causing this. My video card makes noises like that when frame rates go above my screen refresh rate, I have to make sure its capped with v-sync to stop it.
