Very simple modding doesn't seem to work

Basically all I really do in the way of modding is opening creation kit, and editing the colors. Their facial features show up in game, but I can't ever get like makeup like eyeliner and eye tint, and lip tint, to show up in game. This is Lydia.

She is supposed to have pink eye makeup ontop and black on bottom, and red/pink lips, but as you can see there is none of that.

Also she seems kind of dark.

This happened to me before when I used CC and I don't know what I'm doing wrongggg. Help ):

If someone could just give me a quick guide as to how to fix this I'd love it. I can't find anything online... because I don't know how to google that.

Things that I have loaded when I made this modification; apachi hair and some kind of eye mod?

Copypasta from a previous reply to a similar thread.

You're not exporting the face data. You need to press CTRL+F4 with your follower selected. The CK is bugged, though, so wont export any makeup options properly. You could use the NPCEditor, but when I tried it, it always screwed up the meshes (distance between mouth and nose was always far too long.)

Do this:

1. Export face data with CK.

2. Go to textures/actors/character/facegendata/facetints/ and delete your follower's folder.

3. Go to meshes/actors/character/facegendata/facegeom/ and rename your follower's folder.

4. Open NPC Editor and load your .esp.

5. Uncheck the 'Save to BSA' box.

6. Make sure the makeup and stuff appears correctly on the model. If not, use the editor to re-add it.

7. Click 'Create Mod'. This will make the folders appear in meshes/textures.

8. Delete the folder created by the editor in meshes/.../facegeom/, and rename your old folder back to the original name.

End copypasta.

I plan to edit more followers though, is it safe to do that with every one of them or will it mess something up?

edit

I looked and I don't see either of those folders in there...

If you saved an .esp, it'll be labelled with that name when you export the face data with the CK.

Not quite sure what you mean by that

but I still can't find either of the folders you mentioned. They're just not there. I don't know if it matters but I downloaded Skyrim through Steam instead of buying it from the store? I don't know what difference that would make though.

Everyone with a legal copy of Skyrim has a 'Steam version'. There should be no difference.

When you edited the NPC, did you save it as an .esp? If yes, move to step 1. If no, save it as an .esp (say...Lydia.esp), then move to step 1.

1. Open your .esp in the CK, along with its masters (should be Skyrim.esm, ApachiiSkyHair.esm, and possibly the Update.esm.)

2. Locate the NPC you edited. Should be very easy to find.

3. Click on the name. You don't have to open the NPC editing window.

4. Hold CTRL and press the F4 button. This will make the head meshes/textures of your edited NPC appear in the directory I listed before, in their own folder, which will be called the same as your .esp.

5. Follow the steps I gave before.

is there a possibility I could really mess this up? I keep seeing threads about characters having weird random discoloration on the forehead and I'm afraid that's going to happen...

The 'dark head bug', as it's called, is caused by not exporting the face data. That's why your made-over NPC has such a dark head.

The method I gave makes sure this doesn't happen.
