I think a whole new menu system is required here, one more like oblivions, a simple pop up menu, i cant really talk about the dynamics on the Fo3 menu, as its weird and way above my head. Now this isn't impossible, it was done with oblivion ( the BTmod was probably the most successful oblivion mod, as the actual menu was... crap. ) the only thing tho, is the pip boy is pretty popular amongst most people, i mean there's tons of mods for it already, so whether or not this is something in the pipeline or will be any time soon is unknown. Out of Query, does the light still work ?
Baelkin
This might sound odd but I actually think that inventory information is displayed on the PiPBoy model itself rather than being a separate menu. I've noticed that other characters with a PiPboy like Amata actually has PiPBoy menu elements showing on it rather than just a "random" screen, so when you remove the PipBoy you just stand staring at your arm as the game doesn't know how to display the information to you. It's the same reason that when you enter Tranquility Lane and use your PipBoy, instead of accessing your inventory, you just stare down at your arm with a Vaultboy Watch.
