Pifflestick
Sharks... In a river?Nah. Its post-nuclear, maybe the sharks were mutated so they could live in the river, did you ever think of that? And maybe they weren't originally sharks, maybe they were salmon who became huge and have pointy teeth now, what about that? Anything could be possible, its post-nuclear! spineynorman
it's a port, the only thing keeping common sharks away is the water consistency. Provided the oceans boiled during the war, some nasty stuff from 20,000 Leagues would probably go topside after a while when the other fish in the water column died. If crabs can live, I'm sure mutant Water Snakes and jellyfish are about.
Lessabos
I would like to see some mutated birds .... like eagles or some big ugly and mutated chickens ... :)
Severite
Raccoons, opossum, armadillo, skunks, alligators, porcupines, snapping turtles, moose, mountain lions, pigs, muskrats, vultures, bullfrogs, geckos, snakes...the Eastern US is full of strange critters that could be made all the more interesting by mutation. And that's not counting the bugs. Trapdoor spiders, giant, exploding maggots, psychotic wasps, honeycombing bees, hulking beetles, freakin' huge mosquitoes, stalking mantises... Or the plants. Makes one wonder what the radiation and mutation might do to the common venus flytrap... So, here's a little brainstorming exercise now that we've got the GECK. What mutated creatures do you think we should build? I would really love to see the origional FO1/FO2 critters, expanded by a number of relatively "normal" animals, with some things like fish, sharks, and other wildlife for the waters, just dont forget to make them immune to radiation, lol. Oh, and as a request, if anyone is going to do any of this, can we a get two ESPs? One with levelled lists, and another with all lists set to one, that would be awesome. spineynorman
some of the creatures in Fallout 2 were just silly. The rat king and psychic mole rats (all of which showed up in other Black Isle games) really don't need to be resurrected. The evil venus flytraps are stationary and would probably get alot of laughs if they could walk. Underground creatures are a good place to look. You could drop alligators in the sewers for kicks. CHIAPETOFDOOM
An important idea from the AI perspective on alot of these creatures: Please ask yourself, how many of these creatures when confronted would fight or flight? How many of these creatures would simply continue grazing, eating, or doing whatever the hell they are doing. Although I don't mind blowing away EVERY SINGLE CREATURE I meet in a game, it does become repetitive, and I can inform you from living deep in the woods a large portion of my life that most critters dont necessarly want to kill you. Even the large ones can be pretty docile. I am sure someone will argue the counter, and it makes for a good game too to have giant creatures attacking you, but I think its fun to have wildlife and packs of critters that maybe, just maybe sit around and add to the scenery. They don't always have to kill you on sight.
Pifflestick
My father is working on concept sketches right now, shark is looking pretty wicked (coconut crab + shark = WTF IS THAT THING?!). I don't currently have a functioning scanner but I believe my grandparents have one and I'm going to their place tommorow (Between 5-9:00PM Pacific Time (US & Canada)) and will see if they have one. I don't know what he'll work on next but he is a very good artist (His high school art teacher bought one of his paintings, while he was still in the class) so you can expect excellent artwork. twrdrockfan
An interesting fact: The National Zoo, if I am not mistaken, falls within the boundaries of the FO3 map. There is nothing saying that if events occurred properly that some of the animals could have escaped and adapted. Especially the top predators like lions, and herbivores like elephants. Part of me says to stick with native animals, and another part says totally rip-off Parasite Eve and give us a zoo full of mutated monster animals. Celice
Mutated spiders, insects, and birds all sound cool. Ants really needed some more lovin', seeing as how they exist largely at the beginning of the game, and then entirely disappear or become no threat at all. Same with the radroaches--at leas the ants go a quest though :/
spineynorman
and what exactly are herbivores eating? The idea of small creatures getting bigger or more predatory isn't just the radiation, it's the fact that most of the apex predators died. The smaller creatures have had time to fill in the absent guild positions in the food chain and are more competitive as a result. The only reason brahmins are around is because the domestic cows were sheltered and fed by humans. I have no idea why normal dogs are in this game though.
