It says "preparing game for modding" for hours and I don't know what to do

Battlefront 2 support is provided by a third-party extension so a few things may behave unusual compared to official stuff.

 

I've given the extension a quick look and one thing it does when preparing for modding is check if Frosty, a tool required for modding Frostbite games, is installed. The "Preparing for modding" will not end until you've either clicked "Cancel" or "Download" on that notification.

 

Other than that the extension only checks and - if necessary creates - the modding dir, that doesn't justify a long wait so my bet is that you ignored that notification about Frosty.

I have the frosty mod manager downloaded, and the extension by alistair3149, so I don't fully understand
