forthemods08
hey how can i tell if my vram is whats causing me to CTD? ive completely clean reinstalled the game 4x now.. this is my newest reinstall off steam. i was very careful with my mods(did not install skytest this time) and still get occasional random ctds... my fps is smooth with my ini tweaks 25-45. specs are i7 95012gb dominator ramati 6970 overclocked with high fan so temps are good if i look at MSI after a ctd(i am not getting low fps at all when it ctds.. its very random like walking around in whiterun or something) and vram usage was 1967.. is that what is causing my ctd? Brandy1123
There's a lot that goes into "properly" overclocking ones system. I won't go into all the parameters that should be monitored closely for "safe" operation. IF someone does decide to oveclock either their GPU or main board/memory/CPU and isn't monitoring heat, voltage and frequency you could easily blow a trace, component or arc on the board. Over clocking also chews up power outside the already under spec'd card. Now then, heres a few programs you could use to test your card/system. Again, monitor heat closely and know your graphic card's heat limitations. it will eat your card. If you don't already have these or similar monitoring software, then I would suggest to NOT overclock as you probably are setting your system up for emminant failure. I am not responsible for action you take in overclocking, but I do wish you well in the undertaking. :) http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/ http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.htmlhttp://www.galaxytech.com/__en_gb__/XtremeTuner.aspxhttp://www.iobit.com/iobitsmartdefrag.htmlhttp://www.belarc.com/free_download.html Also inherant in windows is : dxdiag <--- ran from the start/search These are only a few (free) tools. If you only run one, use the first one (highlighted). The program is called furmark. Good Luck :)
forthemods08
i have no problems with anything else at all.. no other game.. ive ran furmark and all that software... cpu heat is perfect (noctua h14) and i crank my fan on my videocard up so it hits max 64C or so... i only overclock vid card through the atiCCC. something is funky with this g** d*** game. ive said it before but im almost done with it. i cant play vanilla but cant get a stable build with mods. Brandy1123
I was unsure of your tech level with your orignal posting. Furmark will burn in your GPU/card(s). If you have VRAM problems, it will most assuredly become apparent. Use the 900 second test at whatever resolution you can.

bben46
If your CTDs are truly random it may not even be game related, But something outside of the game causing them. Here is a link to my troubleshooting blog. http://s1.zetaboards.com/bbenlibrary/topic/4751769/1/#newThis is updated from time to time so come back later for more. If you use any of this and have some success - or even if nothing works - please post back here what you did that worked or didn't work. That kind of information can be invaluable to other members having the same or similar problems - And to me in fixing any problems in the blog.
