clanky4
How do you properly export audio for dialogue? For the past couple of years I've been using the default settings on Audacity to export audio as mono .wav files for use with New Vegas's dialogue system. This has more or less worked. However, it does not seem to properly "carry" the audio. That is if you are close enough to an NPC when talking to them you can hear the audio just fine with no problem. However, if you are further away from the NPC, either with them using a combat bark or initiating dialogue from across the room, the audio just plain will not work. That is you can't hear it at all. Long story short. How do I "properly" export a sound file to get it to work with New Vegas's dialogue system fully? Any assistance would be appreciated. Radioactivelad
Do you mean it's cutting off, or can you just can't get a satisfactory range on the audio? Dialogue just doesn't travel well. Generally all you can do is either have the dialogue be very loud, or do something sneaky, like have it come from the player or a sound object. clanky4
I can't get much range out of it. The NPC that I've been testing it with has vanilla combat barks and combat barks that have custom sounds. I can kind of make out the vanilla barks from a distance but the only time I've been able to hear the custom barks is when I'm really close to the NPC. dubiousintent
The info gathered for the "Music and Sounds" section of the wiki was that voice files should be mono OGG files. EDPGaffney (a sound engineer by trade) added some additional info for "sound/fx" files (not mentioning "voice") in "Tip Adding a new sound noises or fx file", including that the GECK "seems to see/list all sound files as MP3, regardless of their actual extension (i.e. WAV or OGG). The extension does not seem to matter to GECK and the sound plays fine in game, but only WAV files play in the editor". I dislike "volunteering" other people, but I know he is still around working with the FNC team, though seldom seen here these days. Might try a PM. -Dubious-
