Random CTDs

Four hours straight is very good considering what you did have. At a certain point, you are going to crash even if you didn't mod the game. I currently have one of the most stable load orders I have ever had in any game and I still have a crash every once and a while. Any log for the last crash?

Four hours is pretty good. The only way you might get a 'CTD-free' experience is if you don't use any mods or the DLCs, but even then you'll probably still CTD at least once or twice.

Purge your cell buffers once in a while (in interior cells, when there are no scripted 'scenes' going on). Open the console and type 'PCB', or use AutoHotKey to set a script for a hotkey to do it for you. Don't do it too often (as it has been known to break running quest scripts and scenes, which is why an 'auto PCB' mod running on a timer is not recommended), but maybe after every 5 or 6 cell transitions (more if you find yourself CTDing more due to memory leak).

I dont think anyone is ever gonna have a game where theres no crashes. Even a completely clean vanilla game is gonna crash at some point especially on pc. The console versions crash aswell, although they are more screen freezes. But yea 4 hours straight thats a lot better than before. I wish I could go 4 hours straight without a crash. Anyways wish me luck just about to reinstall the game and try again. Quick question should i uninstall steam and then reinstall or the other option its asking me is to replace missing or corrupt files. Not so sure I should be doing that. But oh well, advice gladly appreciated. :)

I don't think you need to reinstall the Steam client (unless you've already uninstalled it or something has gone horribly, horribly wrong). If you have the Steam download version of Skyrim, you just have to 'verify game files' and it should reset your data folder back to vanilla.

If you are going to reinstall, I highly recommend the Mod Organizer over the poopy NMM. MO has spared me so much aggravation.

Ive already unistalled the steam client and reinstalled. Installing game as i type, and yes I had read somewhere that people were saying that MO was better than NMM. And I know I shall probably end up with CTD's again as I cannot stand the vanilla version. So I will be installing mods. I was also planning on using BOSS, WyreBash, and TES5edit to sort out cleaning mods, load order, and conflicts etc. However I like I said no doubt there will be crashes. I am thinking of loading not so many mods this time. Although I do like the Warzones, Deadly Dragons, ToL, Wars of 3rd Era, and I was really starting to like COT ENB aswell so Ill be installing SKSE again. I do like the COT so am looking for a compatible ENB for that. I also like the follower mods by Netherwalk (Companions etc). Plus Valfar and Hoth. Oh and the UFO follower overhaul. I suppose im going into overkill now and no wonder I experience CTD's. Anyhows again advice on mods, ENB's, etc would be gladly appreciated. You lot are nice here, and helpful. Again many thanks. Heres hoping to a game with a few less CTD's or at least less frequent. Lol ;)

@Ripple. You have mentioned MO a couple of times. I am seriously considering trying it out, but I have read a couple of things that say it can cause issues with BOSS and TEXVedit. Also, if you alter a mod in one of these, it does not save these changes to an esp controled by MO. Any info on this?

I've been using MO for about a month (from v 0.1.1.5 to 0.1.2.2), and I've had no issues with it, except that one hiccup with SkyUI 3.1 where I had to unpack the BSA into loose files.

For those transitioning from NMM, it's just a matter of wrapping their heads around how mod installations are handled differently through MO than all previous mod managers. Because MO does not install mods directly into the game data folder, you will need to run the utility executable through MO so they will detect MO's 'virtual data folder' rather than the default game data folder. So you can run TES5Edit, BOSS, Wrye Bash, FNIS, ASIS, AV, SKSE and all those utilities through MO (even the CK), and they will work just perfectly fine (as far as SkyProc utilities go, I currently use AV, but have used FNIS in the past through MO. Never used ASIS but many users in MO support thread reports that it works just perfectly fine). Not only that, patches generated through these utilities (Bashed Patch, AV Patch, etc.) go into an 'overwrite' folder (which MO detects and launch as part of its 'virtual' data folder), so your default game data folder is still as clean as the day you first installed Skyrim no matter how many patches you generate. You can then use MO to adjust load order as you see fit (or run BOSS through MO).

Aside from keeping your default game installation clean, the beauty of keeping installed mods in their own separate folders is that I can play around with conflicting mods, for example, texture/mesh/animation replacers, and never have to repeatedly re-install mods per traditional mod installation methods, since mods installed through MO do not overwrite each other. If I don't like how one mod's animation is working in my game, I can unselect it in the MO installation menu, and try another animation mod I installed. If I change my mind later, I can unselect one animation mod and select the other one. No reinstallation/uninstallation needed.

You can also navigate the 'virtual' data folder in MO. Files that conflict will be displayed in red, including conflicting textures/mesh/animations files and esp's with conflicting records. The one that is displayed is the one that 'won' the conflict, but a mouseover popup will tell you the mods it's conflicting with (you'll still need TES5Edit to see precisely which records in the esp's are conflicting).

The only downside I've heard reported is that it doesn't handle auto-updating of Nexus mods as well as NMM (no surprise there...). But being such a control freak about my load order, where I have to see exactly what is in a mod archive before I fully install the mod, I never auto-update anyway. I use the Nexus tracking center to keep informed of mod updates and download them manually. NMM auto updating basically does the same thing anyway, just automates the whole process without the need for user input.

Very nice. Its not that I am not open to moving at the moment, it is just that I have a good load order already set up that doesn't crash. However, next time I reinstall, I will definitely try it. Right now I am treating my Skyrim data folder like fine china and not messing with it at all lol. Thanks for the help and advise.

Sorry to hear your giving up. Shouldnt. Ive reinstalled again, not as many mods (around 80 or so) most of which are texture replacers, HD stuff, few followers. Im wondering whether its Wars of the Third Era conflicting with the likes of Warzones. Or maybe Monster Mod and another perhaps. Ive a few big mods installed such as Monster Mod, Monster Wars, Warzones, Wars of Third Era, Deadly Dragons, UFO, etc. Maybe its 2 of those conflicting who knows. Ive had a few CTD's tonight, but oh well.

Here is my loader order btw, feel free to nit pick. Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks, :)
