Problem Save

I'm new here so please treat me gently!!

Just got back into Skyrim, didn;t realise how many mods there were....really enjoying it. Thanks for all the great work

Anyway, I've intalled a few mod over the past week or so and everything has been working fine. However last night I installed the HD texture pack off steam, which I have since deactivated in the Data files, and the USKP. However, once I have stared Skyrim, one of my saves (on the path outside Whiterun), unless I load it after first loading another save - anyone, causes my PC to hang. If I choose one of my other saves to load from a fresh start there is no problem. I have even loaded the save in question (once I have managed to load it) and re-saved it and still the same problem from a fresh start. As if it needs something loaded into memory from another save to get started.

Is this just one of those things?

Cheers.

Short answer--probably, yes.

Sometimes saves get corrupted, or as you suspect, it might be looking for a fiile that you removed by removing the hi-res textures.

The easiest thing to do, IMO, would be to go on with the saves that are working for you.

Alternately, you could try:

Verifying your skyrim game files through steam (this shouldn't replace the high-res files unless you reactivate them.)

You might also try deactivating/reactivating your texture mods (like if you are using Skyrim Flora or Water or whatever). However, that might introduce a new problem in the process--if you decide to try that I would definitely recommend backing up your game first,, and following the mod author's instructions for deactivating/reactivating exactly.

Occacsionally, if you try immediately saving the problem save game (assuming you get it to launch again) and then reloading the new save, that can work.

But personally I would just abandon that save.

Also, you may find it less painful down the road to test out mods one at a time for a short period, and then, if you decide not to use it, revert to a save from before you introduced that mod. Also of course follow the instructions exactly for adding/removal.

Hope this helps, welcome to the neighborhood, here is a sweetroll! (metaphoric, of course )

Thanks for the advice!

I started again from a previous save, and also un-installed one of the follower addons. That seems to have done the trick. must have been too much to load in one hit.

Cheers
