Looking for others

Recommended Posts

Currently I am new to modding Skyrim SE, While its fine to work alone and learn Id love to make mods with others as well! Ive got some basic knowledge of level design and working on learning to make quests and such. But def would enjoy having others to bounce ideas off of or just making mods in general! If anyone is interested in having another person to do mod stuff with Let me know! Ive got some basic ideas currently that I am working on as well.

I'd honestly go ahead and make your mods on your own. It's the best way to learn. You can always ask here if you're really stuck on something and you'll get help.

Actually working cooperatively on the same esp is really quite difficult. You have all sorts of issues blending the work one person has done into the second version of the mod. Then you're relying on somebody else and you could have massive time lags if the other contributor lives on the other side of the world, for instance. Then what one person has done can interfere with what the other is doing. The other person can get ill or have other personal problems that stop them working on the mod, or they can just get fed up and stop! That leaves you with half a mod and no idea of what they've done at the other end. It can actually cause much more effort than it saves!

I've done it with more experienced modders but rarely, even then, because of the difficulties that I describe. I'll be frank and admit that I won't be actively working with you. That's not intended to be rude... I simply don't have the time.

Just bounce your ideas around on these forums. We're a pretty friendly bunch, on the whole.

To get you started, make sure you've got 'Creation Kit Fixes' for SSE. Also, you must get SSEedit and start automatically and manually cleaning your mod each day. If you don't do this, you can very quickly end up with a right mess that doesn't work or even screws up vanilla quests, etc.

Other free programs like Nifskope (for tinkering with meshes), Audacity (for sound and voice files), Lazy Voice Finder for use hijacking and editing vanilla lines, paint.net for textures can be added to your collection of tools later, as you gain experience with the basic kit and SSEedit. An archive extractor such as BAE (Bethesda Archive Extractor) will be a must have at this point, so that you can extract the vanilla archives for use in Nifskope, Paint.net etc.

A great source of help actually lies within the vanilla game. If you've played the game a lot and you remember that Bethesda did the same thing you want in a certain quest, open up CK without your esp active, find the quest/dungeon/NPC/trap that you want to replicate and see how Bethesda did it.

It sounds like you're in a position to make a start at it and you're looking to make dungeons. When you set off, think carefully about the layout of any dungeon. If it's going to be any decent size at all, you'll need to add 'Roombounds' to optimize it for the game engine. You can very easily make a massive dungeon and find that you've made it almost impossible to add the roombounds!

A great source of info, especially for beginners, are videos by Darkfox127 and Elianora. Both of them do some great videos and explain things very clearly. there's a mass of tutorials and videos for Skyrim modding. For anything else there's this forum!

thanks! I really appreciate the info! And yeah i understand how all that would work but I find it nice to work with people. Since this is more of a hobby Im ok with some things getting swept under a rug for time or forever, you can always go back and work on em and such.

I am working on my own mods however, Currently have a dungeon mod up on nexus for SE! Im doing the optimization now just having some trouble with that but im figuring it out haha. That too list though! THANK YOU! I was always curious on what toolset id need to fully get to make mods and such once i get more advanced in it all.

Again thank you for the info i do appreciate it!
