Updating mods correctly with NMM

Hey,

I had a question about the mod "Realistic Lighting" because i had some problems installing/updating it correctly. The page said "You must install version 3.4a before 3.5". In my opinion that means, that i have to install 3.4a first but when i want to install 3.5 i can just update the old version. Someone told me that this would be wrong. Actually i should choose "No" if NMM asks me to update. So, should i ever choose "Yes, update" or not?

Greetings, Jules

You choose yes when the mod author tells you to.

You choose no when the mod author tells you to.

Some mods are full blown updates and replace all files of the mod, those you can say yes to and NMM will replace the existing version.

Some mods are partial updates and only provide new or updated files for the mod, those you must say no to and NMM will add & overwrite as necessary keeping the existing version in place for the remaining untouched files.

Choosing no all the time is typically the safest thing to do. Even in the case of full blown replacement updates, the new version will be what gets used.

Hope that helps...

Yes, that helps. Thank you :) I watched a video about the NMM now, too. It's from "Gopher" and he says that it is not a great Problem to use "Update". The author of the mod says only "install 3.4a FIRST". He doesn't say that it may not be deleted. Thanks for your help! Edited by jules1991
