Help with Nexus Mod Manager

So every time I uninstall a mod with NMM, it may progress some, but then 100% of the time, no matter what mod it is, it tells me it must close due to simply "an error". I can, however, manually uninstall the mod, then uninstall with NMM (to uncheck the box). This is maddening, especially with re-texture mods that are harder to find and contain more files. I did look in the NMM bugs thread, and did not find any helpful information. I have also checked my Skyrim "Data" folder to be 'Read only' (found from another forum), but to no avail. I can provide the trace logs if necessary. Thank you in advance.

This is due to a few finiscky issues

The zip file could be open.

The folder itself could be in use.

There is a file that NMM expects to be there and it no longer is.

It had a critcal error cuased by a mod that was referenced to be in the folder and is missing

sometimes turning off NMM and back on resolves those issues.

But basically if your installing vai NMM be careful not to have Zips in the mod folder open or to be changing things while NMM is installing/unistalling.

I assume you meant logging out of NMM, then logging back in. If so, I tried uninstalling a mod that added armor, and it worked. But once I tried another mod, it too added armor, the error popped up. Is there any logs or anything of the sort I could display for you (or anyone) to see errors causing this?

No I mean exiting completely

Also if your using NMM and its currently installing a mod, you can not should not try to use it to install something else. Or even visit a webpage vai NMM.

Have you checked to see if your on version 0.34?

There is a log feature but I tend not to even bother with it myself.

It could be in the actual folder for NMM, I think its in Games\NMM

But that could just be were I installed mine.

I don't understand what you mean by exiting completely. Like closing it? Because every time an error comes up, I am forced to close NMM entirely. I am running the latest version of NMM, 0.34, and mine is also installed in the same place as yours.

Logs are in games\Nexus Mod Manager\skyrim\Install Info

theres a specific Forum for issues with the mod manager

You can get there with this link http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/tracker/project-3-mod-manager-open-beta/

It's your best bet to find someone that's had, solved your issue, and or find someone more knowlegeable about NMM and more importantly post your log

This forum we are in is specific game problems and game issues due to mods.

sorry if I wasn't helpful.

Thank you for that forum. I read just now (from a member of staff) that the folder should NOT be read only. So, I tried changing "Data" to NOT read-only (because it already was), but when I went back into 'properties' the box was checked again. Could you help with that?

I just read on Microsoft Forums that you cannot apply that setting to folders, only files. I opened Data, and everything in that was NOT read-only. This is kind-of pissing me off, but thank you for your help and patience.

all of mine are not checked, so I don't know for certain. I don't have experience with coding of NMM or why it behaves that way.

I'm actually installing a bunch of mods and right now I'm double checking my list. After that I'm cleaning dirty edits and Undeleteing and Disableing records to prevent crashes.

Then I'm editing outfit meshes in nifskope for a vampire character that's pretty much why I've been able to answer so many questions people have had. I've got experience handling the kinds of problems they've run into.

If my NMM was giveing me way too much trouble and misbehaving though.

I'd brute force the darn thing and that I have done.

I've backed up my Nexus\Mods folder moved it to a safe location

-Then I uninstalled the whole thing.

-Once it wouldn't let me unistall so I dragged the folders over to the recycle bin

-Then I went into the registry and found it's entry and deleted that.

-both times it started behaving again.

Thank you for sticking with me here. I'm not too smart when it comes to this, so please, what do you mean, exactly, by "dragged the folders over to the recycle bin" (as in, what folders), and "went into the registry and found its entry" (i have no idea what that means or where it is). I really do appreciate your patience in this, thank you again for continuing support.
