New Video Card Advice

Recommended Posts

I picked AMD for the cheap 3D. Already had a S23A700D monitor, only needed AMD card for 3D.

And the AMD cards OC like crazy, 800mhz reference core-clocks vs 1200mhz OC core-clocks.... And still the temperatures are as low as 66C core/70C VRM (hour of bf3@ultra). Sure, my case cooling is overkill but still.

So the majority suggest the radeon 7970 or 7950, but what about nvidia? Is AMD currently the better card?

They benchmark faster. In real-world performance it's a toss-up.

Nvidia cards also don't overclock as high, but they perform better at lower clocks... Like I said, it's a toss-up.

If you're looking for an Nvidia card, a 660 ti or a 670 would be good options, assuming you don't intend to break the bank. Either one is a high-end card atm.
