More Creative, Less Utilitarian Effects

There are a million threads asking for more uber. I don't need more uber... just more interesting! It seems to me like all the magics, weapon and armor enchantments, and potions have been created by accountants and bakers. Which makes the magic seem ... not terribly magical. What we have seems so dryly pragmatic and practical! I suppose in a way, that makes it all more "realistic", but pretty darned uninteresting. When Olaf Sparklefoot took himself to the Mages College, he didn't do so because he wanted to make his wheat grow faster, or encourage his cows to give more milk.

So here's to potions of levitation, of shapeshifting, of haste! How about an enchantment to make your fine clothes a little more bludgeon-proof, or to make wolves friendly? How about a sword that glows, or a spell that brings a gust of wind or a deafening noise? While all of these things would be terrific, I'm not asking for them specifically- I'm just hoping someone with modding skills agrees that more magical, less utilitarian effects would be a worthwhile pursuit!
