PC-Vista-Audio/Sound/Voice problem with 5.1 SS Center Channel

I'm having an interesting problem where the Voices in Fallout 3 are Muted on the Center Channel speaker only of my 5.1 Surround Sound system. This is especially annoying when the characters come to speak to you and all's I hear is an extremely muffled voice coming from the Rear speakers.

Here are my comp stats

Windows Vista Home Premium Edition - 32bit

4Gigs of Memory

PCI-E 8900 GX Video Card with 512DDR2 memory

Intel Dual-core Processor 4400

Additional Notes:

~Center Channel works during DVD play, Other games like WoW, Tomb Raider Underworld, etc

~Center Channel works during the initial load of Fallout but as soon as you load a saved game/start a new one, Center Channel gets knocked out.

~I get Music/Sound effects/Voices from the Left and Right channels as well as the Rear speakers. If a Character is talking to me and I turn left, I hear them just fine. Its only when they face me directly do the get drowned out completely and I hear them talking at about 10% volume from the Rear speakers.

Steps I've taken:

~Previously had Winamp at one point but it was installed 6 months ago or so. MP3, OGG, WMA, WAV files are being associated with Windows Media Player as stated in this fix/help file that Bethesada provided. (this has not solved the problem)

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated as I would like to actually hear what everyone is saying to me instead of reading it all the time.

I think its a game bug.

Look at my comp, and I have the exact same behaviour of the game like you do.

Had been interesting if you are using another sound processor than me.

Here are my comp stats

Windows XP Pro SP2 - 32bit

2Gigs of Memory

PCI-E NV 8800 GTS (Old G80 Generation GPU) 640MB

Intel Core2Duo E6600

Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS

Also, with the missing NPC voices, the voice messages in the PIP Boy are nearly impossible to hear.

Other games work.

A general question of me is, what sound API is the game using, anyways? Does it support EAX, openAL... whatever?

Some deeper Google searching revealed that besides us two, other people seem to have the same center channel problem with Fallout3.

Hope they'll fix that with next patch.

My speakers have a button for different sound settings. Do yours have anything like that? If mine are set to music then my games won't have dialogue coming from the centre speaker.

Also there is usually a program associated with your sound card to alter settings based on what you're doing (gaming, music, etc.).

Good luck.
