HeyYou Posted January 23, 2013 Share Posted January 23, 2013 Beth games are known for having some issues when overwriting files. Autosaves, and quicksaves are notorious for corruption because they get overwritten. Skyrim at least rotates autosaves.... so it isn't as bad... but still, it appears beth still hasn't figgered this one out. Best bet is to create new, hard saves, on a regular basis. I don't use auto/quicksaves at all, create a new save when I do save, and I have never had a problem with save corruption. Just clean out your saves folder once in a while. I think it is caused by a bloated save folder, because I just deleted about 100 saves (I'm on 134 right now, plus SKSE saves) and now I can load the Windhelm area again. Can anyone confirm this? I disabled autosaving on my current playthrough and still it was corrupted. Do quicksaves cause corruption too? I think I loaded from maybe 1 or 2 quicksaves... that's enough to break my entire save? ripple Posted January 24, 2013 Share Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) My understanding is that Skyrim no longer overwrites the quicksave or the autosave (unlike previous games like Oblivion, Fallout 3/NV), but creates new ones and deletes the old one. I got this info from l2ndshift's article of 'Skyrim myths' on the 'Deadly Dragons' page. Maybe someone can confirm this. Regardless, I always make new saves periodically so I can 'time warp' when necessary, because savegame corruption can be caused by other stuff in addition to continually overwriting the same save. Also, add this to your skyrim.ini [saveGame] iAutoSaveCount=# Where # is the maximum count of autosaves you want the game to generate.
