fortie
So im trying to install a mod but it keeps saying System.OutOfMemoryException was thrown. What's that mean?
bben46
Out of memory means just that - when the mod started to install, Windows asked it how much memory it would need. And the mod answered back with a value higher than the available memory at that time. Try rebooting the system to free up any ram that has been taken and not released. Some programs, including Beth's own Gambryo game engine do not always release ram for reuse properly. Rebooting clears that ram and allows it to be used again. Also, if your computer has an integrated video, then some of the system ram is being stolen by the video system if there is no dedicated Vram. If you have limited RAM, that could well be the problem - Skyrim really needs more than the minimum 2GB.Any background processes will cut down the available ram. And the more processes, the more RAM you lose. Skyrim can use up to a max of 4G of ram, but if you have a 32 bit system, not all of the installed ram can be used as the windows and other stuff will take a bit less than .5G (no way around this) Meaning if you have 2G ram, only about 1.5G is really useable by the game. So, a 2G system, with integrated Video will likely have LESS than 1G of ram for the game, Any Dlcs and any Mods. .5G used by the system, another .5 G minimum by the video, leaving 1G for everything else. then any background processes (like a browser running while you play) will eat that quickly. PLUS, any ram not released will subtract from the total available. More info is really neededWhat mod?what OS?Is your game up to date?Any DLCs?A mod load order would help (if you have any other mods already)System specs? (ram, video card etc.)

bben46
With a 32 bit operating system half of your RAM is wasted - a 32 bit system cannot use more than 4G total no matter what. And, there is no add on program that will allow it to use more. No mention of a video card - check to see if you have a video system built into the motherboard - and if it has any vram at all. If you are using an integrated video, it is very likely that it is stealing system ram reducing the total amount available for the game. This is normally not a problem as the game will normally run fine in 2G as long as you are not using a lot of video enhancing mods. The video shouldn't take more than about 512M (.5G) But may vary with what else is running. Be sure to deactivate any unneeded programs that may be running in the background - I have used a program called Game Booster to help with this http://www.majorgeeks.com/Razer_Game_Booster_d8023.html Make sure the previous install of that mod has been completely removed. A stray part, such as a corrupt mesh may be causing the install to fail.
