NanakoMagojiro
Hi everyone. My pc isn't the best, but it runs skyrim at (what i consider to be) a fairly reasonable 15-25 fps. I find it slower than desired in certain intense situations though, and right now i'm looking of ways to optimise that. One thing that has come to my attention is the ini setting, uGridsToLoad. Which apparently controls how much of the outside worls is loaded (and presumably, processed?) at once. All the literature i can find on this subject pertains to increasing it, for better panoramic views. Bu what i'd like to do is reduce it. Maybe run it at 4 or 3. I've heard it can be a bit of a dangerous setting to change though, so i'm requesting advice before i do it. Are there any special steps i need to take to make it work properly? What kind of consequences would there be from doing this (essentially lowering the draw distance). Is it likely to break any part of the game or cause serious issues? Georgiegril
I would very carefully read the Geforce Tweak Guide's info on the subject. (for example, there you will learn that 4 is not an option, and 3 may cause more problems than you are trying to solve....) There are a variety of ways that you can increase your fps and general performance, aside from fiddling with ugrids. I suggest you read the entirety of the NVidia guide (although some of the info is outdated, most is still very useful even if you don't have an Nvidia card)Also, RookieNoob's tweak guide discusses tweaks for both low and high end computers. I know there are some mods out there for improving performance on low end rigs, but I don't use them, so maybe someone else will chime in?Also, if you were to post your computer specs, ini file and mod list, people might have ideas for specific tweaks, alternate mods, etc. Finally, basic computer upkeep like blowing the dust out of your case, updating drivers, disabling unneeded background programs like autoupdates, IM, playing with steam offline, etc, may net you some extra juice. Cheers!
