Skyrim STRANGE Textures

Multiple problems are persisting. I can't change the brightness of Skyrim from the in-game menu, and my textures seem a bit screwed up.

Here are my settings:

Here are some screenshots of in-game errors:

The textures seem fine in darker areas: (despite some minor line errors)

The issue is your video card. Technically it isn't really supported for Skyrim, and from poking around a bit here, you shouldn't expect too many miracles from it. On the second page there is a link to a mod here on the nexus that may help some, though I cannot confirm whether it will do much for you or not. It may be worth a shot before having to consider replacing hardware (or the entire computer since that seems to be a laptop video card).

Thank you for the reply! I was attempting to play Skyrim on my laptop, that's why I have the intel graphics. When I first tried to play it however (when I first got my laptop), it ran with normal textures but more lag. After updating my drivers and installing FPS Boosters and some other performance mods, I can run the game at a pretty stable FPS, just with wierd textures.

The striping can be minimized by altering a few lines in your skyrim prefs.ini.

These lines blur out shadows (decrease the resolution) and alter the angle of light hitting the objects. It is not a perfect solution, but for me it takes care of 98 percent of the instances I would see this.

NB: MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR PREFS.INI AND SAVE SOMEWHERE HANDY BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY CHANGES!

[Display]

iBlurDeferredShadowMask=8

fShadowBiasScale=0.5000

iShadowMaskQuarter=4

Also, given you low graphics resources, I would make sure that you have HDR and Blurshader values set to 0 (This turns them off).

If you are not seeing results from your changes, you are probably accessing the wrong .ini file. The one you want is under C://Username/MyDocuments/Mygames/Skyrim, NOT the one in your Programs folder.

For other suggestions on ways to eke more out of a low-end system, you might likeRookieNoob's Tweak Guide, which discusses tweaks and their effects for both low and high end rigs.

This is very helpful, thanks a ton! Also, will this help at all with the crude looking leaves and mesh?

No, that is a different issue. Its possible these settings might help (make a backup copy first)

[imagespace]

bDoDepthOfField=0

iRadialBlurLevel=0

Disabling radial blur may give you some more fps on a lower system, if you have not done this already.

However, I don't see that much, I think, because I use Static Mesh Improvement Mod. Not sure if your system can handle that, but it make Skyrim so much nicer, if you can. (IMO, of course!)

BTW, if you are not used to playing around with ini files, you may not know that every time you go into the steam menu for skyrim and make changes to the graphics settings (where you set aa and af, distances, etc.) It will overwrite any changes you have made manually to your prefs ini file. That means once you have your prefs the way you want them, it is very helpful to have a separate copy somewhere handy, so that if steam overwrites them (this also happens during updates) you can easy return to your preferred values.

Cheers!

After changing the values in the ini files and disabling the lighting mods, my game now looks like this:

(I'm not quite done altering the settings to get good fps and graphics, but I'm getting there)

Thanks for all the help! It really did make a huge difference.
