kewtmarmar
I am new to modding and vortex, when I start vortex I receive an error message. ( see attached file ). I have removed and reinstalled Vortex and still receive the same error message. I would appreciate any assistance to correct this problem.
nt5raham
As a general rule of thumb, don't install Steam, your game (Skyrim, FO4, etc.), or Vortex under \Program Files. Instead, create a folder like c:\games and put everything there. It keeps Windows from tinkering with it and causing known problems. I don't recognize the specific path in your error message. Removable drive? Network drive? Hopefully if you install everything in a different folder as suggested it will correct the problem. Another possibility is you may have anti-virus software interfering. Do you have a third party anti-virus program like Norton or McAffee, and if so, have you tried disabling or temporarily uninstalling it?
kewtmarmar
Yes I do have norton antivirus. How do I install a Steam game without placing it in the required steamapps folder?
nt5raham
Installing in the Steamapps folder is OK, just make sure Steam is not in \Program Files. Start by uninstalling Steam and reinstalling it. Do not accept the default location for Steam, but choose the option to set a different path. Do the same with Vortex. When you download Vortex from Nexus, I believe there are two download options. Choose the one that offers manual configuration rather than the fast/easy automatic config. Any time you install something game related from this point forward, always look for an option to not install in \Program Files. FYI, I also run Norton. I've never had any conflicts with any programs, but it is always a possibility so it doesn't hurt to troubleshoot.
