Public Executions

It can also have different weapons and armor in each hold, for example, in windhelm the executioner could have a fur armor and a silver greatsword (the model is quite cool), while in whiterun he can wear a steelplate armor and use a waraxe or a greatsword from the skyforge. The only thing that must remain is the hood, which is like the "stamp" of the executioner. I tried to do it myself, but I haven´t experience enough with events. What do you think about it?

I endorse this idea, and I have been fantazising about it for a long time as well. Civil wars are times of mass executions, and there is enough scum and victims in Skyrim to go around. Groups of prisoners being executed in order with shocked or enraged crowds all around them (all sound samples are already in there anyway), but I do have something to add there as well.

I read a lot of Norwegian mid-early medieval history, sometimes from untranslated sources, about the stuff right after the viking age, which was pretty much just a second christian viking age. Civil wars over succession raged the country for about a hundred years, very much like the setting in Skyrim. Pretenders, jarls and co-kings fighting each others with such gusto that it rivals a good season of Game of Thrones in battle, treachery and cruelty alike.

So I noticed something on the note of civil wars and executions...

Field executions!

Captured enemies, or even just civilian farmers, were often beheaded, hanged or just somehow killed off in the field, often just to weaken the other guy's territorial wealth. Cattle were slaughtered, and sometimes, peasants were forcefully conscripted with executions for coercion.

I think executions should be widespread, not just exclusive to the cities. The scope of the crowd would have course be much smaller in a small hamlet than in a major city, but it would be pretty cool to have small bands of soldiers executing people around the countryside. Both hostile soldiers and the authorities of the hold. It would also be a great opportunity to score a few points against the faction you are at war with, the farmers, and the hold itself. Maybe put in a couple of rescuable NPC's? As there are chopping blocks or similar in pretty much any village, it should be pretty easy to arrange, I think.

But wait, there's more.

Military field executions.

After battles were decided in old Scandinavia, a lot of prisoners were taken. These were very often killed off in the field. Sometimes on the fly, sometimes by hanging, sometimes by beheading, sometimes with shockingly violent torture, like castration, blinding, mutilation and/or removal or crushing of limbs, live skinning and being whipped for hours, if the soldiers felt that the enemy owed them any special satisfaction for their transgressions. I am sure that random executions out in the woods should be just as easy to make as the ones around settlements, and could add a lot of immersion to the whole walking experience. Maybe even set up a bloody whipping over a tree? I am not sure how easy it is to script, but it would be pretty a pretty cool scene to have a few stormcloaks whip an imperial violently for a minute or ten before tossing him over a rock and beheading him, or imperials mercilessly bashing a stormcloak's spine in with a sledgehammer before killing him with swords. My wet mod-dream would be hanging as well, but I am not sure how that would work in regards to physics.

Besides, wouldn't those boring old factional forts out there be a lot more fun if they had the odd execution or two? Hell, some of their prison quarters are practically made for it too.

While writing this post, I started wondering if reading this much history is good for my mental health, but Skyrim is a tough place raged by civil war, and I think it would definitely benefit a lot "aesthetically" from these small, cruel touches.

What do you guys think?

well i think this would be even better if other factions (bandits, forsworn, etc.) would also execute people

Yeah, that was actually a point I forgot to mention. Any faction got a reason to execute someone in this land, whether it be nords, imperials, forsworn or vigils of stendarr, so everyone with an enemy should easily fit into this vision. :)

now that i think about it blades capturing thalmor and executing them and vise versa because they have more reason for hating each other than most other factions do.

A long while back I suggested adding an execution block and executioner to whatever515 for his Dread Prison mod, but never got any reply. Shame, because it would seem like adding such a thing would be kind of a no brainer, especially compared to the mostly non-functional (until recently anyway) torture chambers. What kind of 'Dread Prison' doesn't have an executioner's block or gallows?

Anyway, I'd still love to see someone take this idea and run with it. It's certainly doable (since it's been done elsewhere), though I lack the skills to do it myself, so all I can do is check back once every handful of months and hope it finally happened.
