HeirOfTheSeptims
Ok so I've made a topic about this before, but I'm still desperately trying to make a custom torch. I've made some progress with workarounds, but seeing as its something that shouldn't even be happening in the first place (and apparently something that isn't a problem for anyone else), I was hoping that somebody might know how to make it stop. Previous post: I'm trying to make a custom torch, but whenever I equip or unequip it my character does the "stoop down and light" animation, like when NPCs light something on fire with a torch. Upon unequipping it my arm stays out as if I were still holding the torch and my character can no longer move. Weirder still, when I press the right directional key I get forced back through the last load door I had used (in this case placing me into the Moorside inn). I've even tried duplicating a vanilla torch and doing nothing to it, and gotten the same result. I can't seem to find anything mentioning such an issue. I've managed to find a workaround that gets rid of the most insane issues, namely the jumping locations, movement freeze, and the animation when equipping the torch. I did this by using PlayIdle(IdleStop_Loose) to try forcing it out of any animations. Unfortunately, though I did this both on equip and on unequip, the incorrect animation still partially plays when unequipped. Now I still have the issue of the hand being held out if the torch is unequipped without your weapons/magic drawn (this can be fixed by drawing weapons/magic or by jumping), but I've found that if you unequip it with your weapons/magic drawn it causes your hands to get stuck at your side (with the weapon still in the right hand), your character's rotation is locked to the camera, and you're unable to draw/sheath your hands. This problem only seems to be able to be fixed by equipping a new weapon/spell (thus forcing the draw animation). I think I may be able to fix this second issue by force equipping a fake weapon to your right hand, then removing it and re equipping whatever you already had (I would do the left hand, but its impossible to force weapons to equip to the left). Unfortunately this could definitely cause problems with modded weapons that may have equip/unequip functions or any number of other issues, not to mention the fact that it would just look odd. Now if you've read this far I'll assume you're thinking "WTF? All this for a toch!?" Yeah, its completely ridiculous. I've seen a lot of crazy bugs in my time modding, but this is is by far the most irritating and illogical I've ever seen. So if anybody has any idea on how I could get it to stop happening that would be WONDERFUL. And you'd get the satisfaction of saving me from getting brain damage hitting my head against my desk! HeirOfTheSeptims
Update: After testing on an old spare laptop I had with a 100% clean install of SkyrimSE it appears that this bug may be local to my PC. Of course that still doesn't make any sense because its not an issue with all torches, or even all modded torches, but only new torches that I have modded. Anyway, I made a mod with a duplicated torch. When tested on my normal PC it caused the bug, when tested on the clean install it didn't cause the bug. I guess I'll just remove my fix attempts from the real mod and not use the item myself, since it should work fine for everyone else :/ Still if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it, or just what the heck is going on, I'd love to hear it. cumbrianlad
No idea, I'm afraid. Oddly, I came on here to ask if my PC may be the cause of some weird behaviour when testing. If you release it, you'll pretty soon get feedback if it's happening for others. You said if you duplicate a vanilla torch the effect happens on your PC. I take it the vanilla torches don't? Does SSEedit give you any clues?
