Sound effects stop working

Heh. I did. I replaced my video card this past weekend to a Nvidia GTX 660 TI. I can still max out the gpu, but not nearly as often. When I'm not looking at reflective water, I'm getting 37 to 65 fps. Looking at Lake Rumare I get about 15fps. The worst is still the Better Cities Water Front by the Imperial city. There are portions of it where I get 9 fps. It's such a small portion of the game though that I've decided to live with it so I can keep Liquid Water and quarls.

Hmm. I wonder if any of the sound processing is going through the gpu. I didn't even think to check that.

If it's onboard sound...

The 660 ti is capable of running sound for monitors that support it. My monitor doesn't so I didn't think it would be an issue. The mother board has on board sound as well, but again nothing's hooked up to it. What I've done now is explicitly disable all of the output audio devices on the system except for my sound blaster card. All sound should have been getting routed through that device but I think you hit the problem on the nose.

So far, I've gotten about an hour of play without a repeat of the problem.

thanks.

Cool.

Sound, especially onboard sound, is one of the worst causes of unknown (as in 'phantom') issues on PCs. Onboard sound chips should always be disabled unless they are absolutely required.
