Circuitous
Obviously the people who are not having trouble negate the people whoa re having trouble. So if one person has no problems with the game, then that means my copy CAN'T be crashing constantly. And further, if it is crashing it's clearly MY fault and not Bethesda's. Have I gotten it right, is that how it works? We place no blame on the company, only the end user? Game developers can do no wrong? Game developers can definitely do wrong. However, for the millions of people who own the game and aren't on Bethsoft's forums crying about it, the game runs satisfactorily. If you're getting constant CTDs when playing Fallout 3, it's probably your fault - driver conflicts, hardware conflicts, or simply having a system that isn't up to snuff are all to blame for constant game crashing. As it happens, most of those problems won't be noticeable until a game like Fallout 3 stresses your computer. The more that's demanded, the more likely a little problem like those will cause a big issue. For my part, when I first got Fallout 3 it was crashing constantly, any time I went outside. Guess why. ... ... If you said it was because of SecuROM, a rootkit, some piece of leftover DRM trash, a trojan, a worm, a virus, a memory leak, etc., then you're wrong. The real reason? My video card didn't have enough memory to render the scene outside. Imagine that! I turned some settings down, and voila - it ran perfectly. My game has never crashed since then, not even when exiting, not even when repeatedly alt-tabbing out to browse the net or do anything else. I've left Fallout 3 minimized for upwards of 45 minutes and came back like nothing had even happened. Why is that, you think? It's got a lot to do with me knowing my system. I know what it's capable of, all of my drivers are up-to-date and tested to work together properly. I watch what I install, I practice basic habits to keep myself bug-free, and most importantly I actually know what the hell I'm doing. I'm willing to bet that if you did the research (real research, not just finding a random forum post that conveniently fits your expectations), a lot of the people having all these issues with the game don't really know their system that well. macmert
BTW is this quote or article or whatever it is, legal or official? A guy posted a quote, there isnt even a link, the guy who wrote down the quota claims that he bought 320 copies? and his Comp. engineering department checked it out? How can we confirm it? If writing down is the thing, here I go... I bought 3 trillion gazillion copies (Yea I am rich so what :D) and checked it out on my 45400 Pc's, some of them were laptops, hell I even hacked my PSP and played Fallout on it :D and I say it is not malicious in any way... So how will you confirm that I actually bought copies and tested them? or how will you confirm that I did NOT do any of the things I said... Please be more careful what you post in the future, dont just copy paste it from somewhere... BTW I have minor issues, I guess it was with my old vid card drivers, however I have beaten the game and I dont think I will start a new character in the near future (Baldurs Gate FTW :D), if you have issues, seek help in nexus forums, many guys here are really helpful and you will find answers here... Circuitous
The only references to that "study" seem to be quotes in other forums, I can't find an original source.
Michlo
Umm, as soon as I read "I purchased 320 copies of it" I knew it was mostly a load of crap. $16,000, really? Nobody does that. NOBODY. Not for their computer science department, not for testing and certainly not with the current financial climate. I've not had the issues described. Also, I've always been warned when trying to install something that is older than I have and received no such warnings for the .Net framework. I shall check when I get home to see what is currently installed. So I suppose my point is, don't fall for the scaremongering and get all panicked about it. Just make sure you're taking the precautions you should always be taking when using computers (and you should know what they are by now). Edit - Oh and what Circuitous said. :)
gandalftw
The first time i saw the post was here.Check out post 2 and 10.LINKFound a site for Kcp Technologies here.LINKFound someone going by the same user-name here.LINKI also found it hard to believe that someone would purchase 320 copies.Later he says 2,880 copies were ordered.I tend to not take anything i read on the internet as truth but i did find KPCTECH's posts interesting.I don't have anywhere near the problems KCPTECH describes,"Users of .NET 3.5 or Vista should have even more random crashes."My OS is Vista Home 32bit and i have Net Framework 3.5.I'm starting on my second play-through.I've had two CTDs and a few freezes, while annoying they are hardly major issues.I am aware, tho, that some are having more problems than the problems i've experienced and i can see how info like KCPTECH's post might cause someone to have an aha moment.
