Infinite Loading Screen on Save Boot

Howdy.

I've run into an issue I've never had with FO4 before - that of an infinite loading screen when I first try to load into the game from the menu's "continue" option. Loading from the "load" option also infinitely loads. (I've had it running as I type this post, since tabbing out does not affect my game's loading.)

This has never happened with FO4 - as I've stated before - but I've had it happen with Skyrim, so I looked to see if, similarly to skyrim, there were any mods or guides on how to fix it. Well, one said it was something to do with memory - which would be strange if it was really the case, since it only started doing this today and never did it when I was running a potato desktop too - but it said deleting your old saves would help. So like some sort of idiot I just did that, so now I only have a single save. Thanks Vortex for just straight up deleting and not moving to recycle bin... I digress.

A suggestion was to use Fallrim / Resaver to try and clean up the save, which I downloaded and tried, but whenever I do, I get this error:

"Error while reading file "[savefile name]".

Index: 3, Size: 0"

No idea what this means, and my searches for troubleshooting gave me nothing useful - people that have this error either don't have it for FO4 or they get, what my brain reads as moonrunes, unclear instructions and a "okay fixed it thanks".

I had also read that in cases of things not working, the FO4UP can cause a lot of issues... so I tried to just disable it and see what that did. In the end, it did the same thing it had before and infinitely loaded.

I'd also heard that it's just a problem with certain mods. So before I just outright disable anything I figured I should ask.

NON-BUMP UPDATE: Using Discord, I was able to get a solid time confirmation of just how infinite it really is. With everything enabled, after an hour...

Still did not load. It did lag my computer three times, however. This was with everything as normal, like I'd just booted it up to play like I usually would.

I'm including the save just in case it helps.

I use Vortex in combination with LOOT.

Here are some specs. I've always been bad at what I'm supposed to send over so if this needs anything else let me know.

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor, 3400 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)

Installed RAM: 8.00 GB

GPU: Radeon RX 580 Series

BaseBoard Manufacturer: ASRock

Here is my load order. I've not uninstalled anything mid-playthrough, although I did have other mods in previous games.

Well this is quite the bowl of fishhooks. I'll try my best to help you out.

I downloaded your save and loaded it up in my ReSaver, and yeah, i've never seen that error before.

I wish you could send me a few more of your saves which have worked in the past. You really should have moved them to a separate backup folder yourself!

Are you sure Vortex can't recover that somehow?

Your PC is definitely on the weaker side, but it sounds like you've been able to run the game on an even weaker PC before.

Still, 8gb of ram is low. And your processor is a bit weak as well. That can't be helping matters. But let's still try to get it to work with what you've got.

UFO4Patch has been giving alot of people alot of trouble in the last week, as far as i've seen. But you can't just uninstall it mid-playthrough. Is your heart set on getting this borked up save to work? Or are you trying to start a new playthrough?

You might try disabling that LoadingScreenFix mod real quick. It's very simple to remove loading screens yourself, and that mod is very old.

I honestly don't expect it to help with the save you posted, though. I don't think that save can be salvaged.

You might also benefit from organizing your load order yourself. LOOT can only do so much. If you have anywhere near 100 mods, you can't trust LOOT to organize it properly. But it doesn't look like you've got that many mods. Still, LOOT may have messed you up somewhere.

I made a big outline post recently in another thread, feel free to give it a look-over -

I wish I could too, I had pretty much every save since I started my savefile... but I guess I'll suffer for it. I did look up if it was possible to recover save files deleted through Vortex, but no dice there. Everything I saw was basically either a no, or through system restore - which I don't think I've ever used. At this point backing up is something I'll do like I'm paranoid. But, yeah, learning from years of just suffering through Skyrim with 800150 mods at a time that it's never a good idea to actually remove mods. But I figured if it just somehow managed to load it, I could manage to try and get out of the cell and see if it's because of that.

I was hoping more to get it back just because I'd done a lot. Collected half the magazines, completed MSQ + Nuka world + Far Harbor, and had spent a couple hours prettying up Boston Airport - it's about two days in-game that would make me sad having to redo.

And aye, the load fixer was more of a desperate effort to try whatever solutions I could find. I tried mods that just remove the more intensive parts of the loading screen too, but it infinite'd anyways. I could probably start a new game and live with it,

But I'll try both'a those, it's worth a shot!

- And I wasn't actually sure what cell it was before now, but I'm willing to bet it was HardwareTownEx after a quick check on the Fallout wiki, since I'd just fast traveled to Hardware Town before I realized it was 4AM and I should sleep.

Oh, yeah. Doy.

It's labeled as "The Fens".

Also, tried to re-sort the load order, and still sitting for half an hour on loading before I give in.

I also wanted to see if I could actually start a new game - and I can't, it's the same issue, just this time I can access the esc menu for some reason and it's a black loading screen rather than the usual one.

When it comes to starting a new game - you may be experiencing an old bug.

There may be some sort of prompt that you're not seeing in that black screen.

(also i'm pretty sure the New Game loading screen is always black)

Try clicking Accept/Decline while looking at the New Game loading screen.

Speaking from experience. This was happening to me for a while, years ago.

But i'd wager that's not actually the problem here. Have you tried starting a new game without any mods enabled whatsoever?

If you can't start a new game with all mods disabled, then the problem lies elsewhere.

If you CAN start a new game with all mods disabled - just go through the list.

Enable mods in chunks of 10 until you find yourself unable to start a new game due to the infinite loading screen.
