Has a solution come up for the random crashes while roaming the outdoor cells?

I'm talking about the instantaneous crashes that happen while the player character walks around exterior cells. No crash logs or warning. Just "pop!" there's your desktop!

 

These instant crashes could happen at any moment during my play of the game. Though, these happen more often in exterior cells. The Commonwealth, The Island, and Nuka World... all of that. My Survival playthroughs are almost unplayable simply because of these random crashes (wipe out an hour's worth of gameplay each time, how about that). I'm basically at the point where I had to install a mod to allow quicksaving before entering a door or after walking every ten minutes.

 

I am sure there has to be a known cause for these random crashes. I just want to play the game without having to fill up my hard drive with saves.

I mean, you can't just ask "is there a solution" - there's too many variables as to what could be causing you to CTD in the first place.

 

Are you using mods? If so - how many mods are you using which alter the graphics and terrain of the game? This includes ENB mods. Do these crashes ONLY happen outside, or do they happen inside as well? If they happen outside 95% of the time, it may also be a Weather mod giving you trouble. Do you only CTD when in combat, or do you CTD even when nothing is going on?

How many mods are you using that break precombines? The most popular example is the mod Scrap Everything. If you insist on using that, expect crashes.

Other mods which alter overworld locations/terrain can also break Precombines. Be sure to read the mod description page, or comment section to find out if a mod breaks precombines. Or check it yourself in the Creation Kit.

Mods that "clean up" settlements or cities are also prone to doing this. Newer mods are being more careful not to break precombines, though. But you should make sure before installing a mod.

 

If you're experiencing CTDs without using any mods at all - it might just be your PC. Try turning down the graphics and see if things improve. Or try installing a nice performance-friendly texture replacement mod. PhyOp is pretty good.

Also, how full IS your Saves Folder? How full was it before you apparently installed an Allow-Quicksaves mod? You want to keep that folder fairly empty - maybe 1o mods from a single character at a time. Having an over-full Save Folder will give you alot of problems, with or without mods.

 

I haven't experienced a random CTD while running across the land in so long, i'd love to learn if there's some kind of pattern. This problem does come up quite a bit. What are all you people doing that i'm not? Please post your Load Order if you are using mods.

I think I may have discovered a solution for mine. I run a 144hz G-sync compatible monitor, so, i did a little experiment to see if my refresh rate was causing my random outdoor crashes.. as it sometimes causes hangs when accessing in-game computer terminals.

I lowered my monitors refresh rate 120hz. in the NVIDIA control panel.

Limited my FPS via the LoadAccelerator mod ini file:

FPSLimitInGame = 60

FPSLimitInLoading = 350

FPSLimitInBlackLoading = 350

Disabled VSync in BethINI. Beats the hell out of adjusting the preset interval entries in 5 differnt ini files.

I have spent the last 5 days just running around outside with different characters (one of which is and "old" level 65 character that has about 10 mods removed since his last save) Not a single crash, not even one. Probably about 30 hours or more total. I even ran thought area's that were practically a guaranteed CTD, multiple times, no crashes. My game is butter smooth and rarely dips below 60 FPS even in downtown Boston....Running a 9700k along with an RTX 2060 super, all four of Luxor's AIO texture packs along with Hein's Vivid Fallout AIO.

Don't know if this will help, just figured I'd throw it out there.....Might help someone. :)
