ArchAngelAlien
Hello. I am new to modding and am currently having ONE HELL OF A TIME getting these things to work. I have found out VERY QUICKLY that mods are not user friendly, and require a lot of knowledge just to get working correctly. It's all extremely irritating. I have no idea what my problems are, but I have found out how to get logs. I have no idea if it's a graphic issue with Skyrim, but without mods the game works just fine. ripple
Can you replace your load order with a BOSS log (the one with the messages)? Include the list of plugins not recognized by BOSS if one is generated. Enclose them and the papyrus log in spoiler tags so they don't clutter the screen. Wastelander121
I think you're going through the same thing I did...make a new save and try again
ArchAngelAlien
I've just decided to completely reinstall. I had installed and removed, and installed and removed tons and tons of mods, learning how to do this all correctly. I figured a clean slate would prove to fix the issues. I can provide a BOSS log once I have finished, because I am sure I will run into these issues again. However, can you recommend anything for a new slate? What should I do first? Download my texture mods? Then gameplay? How should I edit my INI? Is there any advice you can give before I start modding once more? The download is about 75% complete. ripple
If you are going to do a fresh reinstall of the mods, I recommend you use the Mod Organizer rather than one of the traditional mod managers. MO does not install mod contents directly into the game data folder, so you'll never need to do a 'clean install' again if you install mods through MO and you'll never leave behind orphan files in your game data folder when you uninstall mods. Moreover, since MO keeps mod files isolated in their own folders, you won't ever need to worry about installation order even for mods with conflicting files (e.g. texture or mesh replacers). You can adjust 'installation order' after you've installed a mod as easily as you adjust load order. It's not as easy to set up as something like the NMM, primarily because all third party utilities (like Wrye Bash, BOSS, etc.) need to be set up as executables in MO so when they are launched they will scan MO's 'virtual data folder' rather than the default game data folder (which should contain only the default game resources). But once you get past that hurdle it's pretty much clear sailing. I would also recommend you keep the number of mods that add additional spawns or spawn points to the worldspace small (mods like SkyTest, Warzones, SkyMo etc.)--in fact, just one. These sort of mods tend to make worldsplace travel more unstable. It's not the fault of the mods, but a limitation of the game engine. It's why vanilla Skyrim has the population density of a post-apocalyptic world. Just be selective about what you put into your load order. Yanking out mods after often leave orphan junk in save games and cause more problems. After you are done, post your BOSS log (with the messages) and a list of plugins not recognized by BOSS, and we can give it a 'once over' before you invest too much time into a new save. ArchAngelAlien
I appreciate your help. I've tried to do this all on my own for the past two weeks, to teach myself basically. I've been through ENB's. All the top mods on the site, and much MUCH more. I seriously never even made it past level 3, and was never even able to start a new game due to mod testing. I wanted to make sure everything was 100% stable before I invested my time into it. I am holding off of Dragonborn DLC for now, because I am sure the mod support and compatibility may break things. And I have not even finished the vanilla game before. I was using NMM, as I thought it was the best option since it's from the website I download my mods from anyways. I've cleared everything, my Skyrim saves, INIS, and 8GBs of Mod data left in the data folder. Yeah, that's right. 8GBS.. of mod files in the data folder. I have been doing this for 2 weeks straight. Thank you for your willingness to help me. I am not sure of this MO organizer, but I will read on how to use it and install it and give it a go. I will provide an update here within an hour or so. ArchAngelAlien
So I ran into my first problem that I am not sure how to fix. It's actually with MO itself. It showed me a small tutorial, but it did not tell me how to fix it http://i.imgur.com/HZmNMqN.png No idea what's going on here. ripple
Right click on the data folder in that window, select 'set as data...' (or something like that). The text should change to a green 'everything looks ok' (or something to that effect). Then you can install the mod. Sometimes this happens when you do manual installs. You can actually right click on a mod archive, select 'query the Nexus for info', type in the mod's Nexus ID (usually in the archive name if downloaded manually), and be able to install automatically. ArchAngelAlien
Ah okay. I like this program, it's very user friendly. There is a few things I don't understand, like BSAs for example. Do they need checked to function? Or do they load automatically? http://i.imgur.com/EHdkqZK.png And does Boss auto organize the load order now? Or is the load order not needed anymore? Also the ESP's need to be checked as well, right? ----------------------Edit- Also, does this mean the overwritten files by the texture packs were just the README.txt? http://i.imgur.com/fP9Rewz.png Edited February 6, 2013 by ArchAngelAlien
ripple
1) You should check all the BSAs and also order the BSAs, something along the lines of this: Skyrim default game BSAsDLC BSAsUnofficial Patches BSAsOther Mod BSAs Keep in mind that the installation order will trump the BSA order you set (so you may want to adjust the mod installation order via the left window accordingly). Also, if you spot a 'Skyrim - Invalidation.BSA', leave that one unchecked. Instead, after you have installed all of your mods, and set the BSA load order, go to the 'work around' menu at the top, and click 'back date BSAs.' 2) Conflict window: the bottom window basically shows what files (and from which mod) are 'overwriting' the files of the mod package you have open. The top window shows the files that are being 'overwritten' by the mod package you have open. You can, of course, adjust the installation order of the mod on the left menu to suit your own preference of who should 'overwrite' who. You can also click 'data' on the right window, and it will display MO's 'virtual data folder' where it will display file conflicts in red. If you mouse over the conflicting file, a balloon will pop up and show you which mods contain the files that are conflicting. 3) You'll need to set up BOSS (and the other external utilities like SKSE, Wrye Bash, etc.) as an executable in MO (one of the top left buttons). After you do that, you will need to run these executables from inside MO (right top, drop down menu), so they will scan MO's virtual data folder rather than the default game data folder. Works the same way with ASIS, AV, and any other SkyProc utilities. Edited February 6, 2013 by ripple
