Aegrus
If this is true, it's bad news for all of gaming. Not just because it could kill the Xbox, but because of all the good devs it could conceivably cripple money-wise. (Since fewer games would be sold to fewer people.) Forcing an internet connection is a horrible, horrible idea. And if they couple it with no used games sales and a price tag comparable to those of the PS3 and 360, it's pretty much console suicide. Thor.
Its not going to happen with the ps4, i do believe. i haven't heard anything regards to always online for the next console. But if this is true, i can see allot of people switching thats for sure. it would indeed be console suicide if Microsoft goes in that direction, like i mentioned before. brokenergy
I'll take this as a grain of salt as there hasn't been any announcement yet, especially since gaming journalists aren't the best when it comes to fact checking.
Ihoe
Wouldn't blocking 2nd hand game sales violate the "First-Sale Doctrine" rights that consumers have? Just built an HTPC and it's amazing. It's like having a beyond-next-gen console right now. The very concept of always online and DRM measures are tactics that the PC sector employed long beforehand and still employs, so I don't see anyone running to the PC to escape from it. If anything they'll run to the Wii U, which isn't barring used games or forcing always online connections. Nintendo caters primarily to their Japanese market, and the Japanese market isn't as supportive of these capitalist money grabs. They also dont like online purchasing, so forcing a license based situation would never happen on a Nintendo system.(Fanboy i am not :|) @Brokenergyhttp://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/878118-sony-patents-pre-owned-games-block/People found out about Skyrim 2 years before it was even announced just by checking patents. I'm just saying they're strongly considering doing this. Edited February 16, 2013 by Ihoe
JimboUK
Wouldn't blocking 2nd hand game sales violate the "First-Sale Doctrine" rights that consumers have? Yes it does, Alithinos posted earlier that Valve are being sued in a German court for not allowing games to be sold on, the result of that could be interesting. One could say that the Consoles are also a continous series. No, most people had no Idea what the game was called, when will it be released or what books will follow up to it. all in 2008. even when they did know, they wouldn't know what it "brung". what anything "brings" is nebulous, and sharp people can guess what is will be "brung" from registered patents, Oh and the link you provided is censored here.
