Time For a GPU Upgrade! Need Suggestions!

Hey guys! I am currently involved in Skyrim. I have not even beaten the main game yet, and modding the game has seriously interested me. I tried running the game with all my mods and ENBs, and found performance to be a bit weak. To the point where I needed to just get rid of my ENBs.

My current setup:

i5 2500k @ 4.5 ghz Overclock

16gb Corsair vengeance ram

120 gb Corsair Force GT 3 SSD

Evga GTX 580 1.5 standard edition OC'd to 840/2040

Taxes have come back, and I am ready to upgrade my system. I play on a single monitor at 1920x1080, but have 4 monitors connected to my pc. I will be eventually running 3 27' monitors with a screen resolution of 5760x1024 when I can afford it, but that won't be for some time.

I am basically looking to either add another GTX 580 to my system to SLI or, sell it and do a crossfire or SLI setup. My budget is around $800.00.

I want to be able to run ENBs such as K ENB, or sharpshooter's ENB with 60 constant FPS with all the Nvidia / AMD tweaks maxed out. I need some suggestions!

Get a high end Nvidia card. I like AMD and I like Radeons, but I ran into a bit of trouble with drivers recently. I might get Nvidia for my next card, depending on how things go with drivers and issues for my current card. As you know (I'm sure), Nvidia is better in regards to driver issues.

Nvidia may be better with drivers, but for 2 high end Nvidia cards it will cost around 1000 dollars for 680s or so.

I can get 2 7970s on sale right now from Tiger Direct for about 750 bucks. With 5 free games, including Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite, Farcry 3, Hitman absolution and Sleeping Dogs. With 2 30 dollar mail in rebates. The performance per watt compared to the GTX 680s make the deal a no brainer. The 680s may be a bit faster and have better drivers, but they are also 300-400 dollars more expensive for not much more performance gain.

I am currently running a 27 inch 1920x1080 monitor. But want to future proof my system as I plan to do a surround sometime later this year at 5760x1080. For the moment though, I will be running 1 monitor. I run a lot of graphic mods, and want to use the best ENBs and still be able to play. My refresh rate is capped at 60. Edited by ArchAngelAlien

Okey, than do what i did not.

Get AMD 7970 Vapor X 6gb Vram.

I wanted this card for sli so badley, but ended up with selling my GTX 680 2gb only to buy the 4gb version.

Reason is becuse i have a 27" monitor with nvidia 3D Vision 2. And its only compatible with nvidia.

But sadley with my new modded skyrim even 4gb vram was not enough. The engine reached the 4gb vram and crashed after 1-2 minuts.

Though this is with 5760x1080 resolution and with a combined texture pack. Taken from 60 of the best quality 4k texture packs.

The 7970 Vapor X with 6GB Vram, is a very good card. It beats the GTX 680 hands down like the rest of the 7970 brands.

Not only is it a lot stronger its a lot cheaper aswell.

So if you get 2 of this in sli, you should be set and rdy for both surround and 3d gaming with an ultimate skyrim edition,

Now im a real graphic enthusiast and its such a shame that i have to lower settings so skyrim caps at 3.7 GB Vram.

As i said if it reaches 4gb you got 1 til 2 minuts before it crashes.

I cant wait for the new GTX Titan to come.

Suposedly to be as good as the 690 and with 6gb.

A pair of this in sli would enable me to rly test how much vram skyrim can use.

I wouldn't be supriced if it used 6gb vram on both card in a sli setup.

So go for the 7970. If your not a must have nvidia user.

Look at benchmarks GTX 680 vs 7970 from HardOCP.com if your not shure.
