hoofhearted4
so its been out for a long time. ive actually had it for a long time, but i have only started playing it just the other day. If youve played LoL or DotA or anything of the like, this game might intrigue you. This game is fun. i only play Single Player Bots v Bots. thats whats fun for me. The game is $10 on Steam, and imo, a worthy pick up if you enjoy these types of games, esp if you find it on sale like i did a while back. The game actually looks quite nice when you turn up the settings. there is a lot of action going on that all plays out nicely. watching even the little minions go to war is fun. and there are a lot of minions and minion waves, so there is never really a dull spot. you Capture Flags, which give you small bonuses or let you control the buildings around it (Gold Producing Mines, Shops, Spawn Gates for minions, etc) The bonuses are OP, so if one team holds more flags, they dont get over-momentum and bulldoze you to the ground or anything, however, holding flags is very important never the less. You get gold as i said and can buy equipment just like other similar games, you can also spend your points on Team benifiting things, like adding better minions to each wave, upgrading minions. decreasing Death Time or Increase Gold Income Rate. The game is similar to the genre but has enough uniqueness to warrant buying it. that said, it is by no means a genre defining game: If youre interested in this game, take note that last sentence. You will most likely not buy this game and replace your current favorite Battle Game. There are a lot of things about Demigod that bug me (coming from LoL personally) that ill lay out for you. some are things i find bad about the game, some are just things that are different, but not necessarily bad and some are unique Pros to the game. in no order; Gold Income - as i said, you gain gold over time. you can gain more gold if you capture a Flag that has a Gold Mine, or if you upgrade Gold Income at the Citadel (Home Base). you also gain a bunch of gold for kill enemy Demigods, or assisting. you DO NOT gain gold for killing minions. i think the reason for this is because there are a lot of minions at all times. but this also means, going off by yourself to capture a flag, killing a few minion waves along the way, wont benefit you much. You do get XP, but thats about it. all the while, youre falling behind on gold. I also think it was an attempt to keep players near the action at all times. Even playing in bot v bot, it was almost always 4 bots in one place at one flag on the enemy team, and usually 3 or 4 bots from my team. all fighting. but yea. the more lone wolf you go, the more you will fall behind, which also makes capturing flags seem less important then just killing enemies. maybe this changes online, where team work comes more into play (there are Champions that specialize in helping allies and such) but at least from my experience, thats what happens. Also i must add, things do cost a decent amount in Single Player. if you want some of the better items, itll take you a while to get there, and you most certainly wont be getting those good items AND upgrading the Citadel (the Team Buffs). The Artifact Station you can get form capturing the associated flag has the most expensive items in the game, and its highly unlikely youll get any of them. if you try and save up for them, youll find yourself extremely weaken by not buying other items and in such a case, you wont be able to kill other enemies, and wont be able to afford the high end items anyways. and even if you do manage to save up for them, while they are good, you wont find yourself dominating or anything because of them. the Price of those high items, doesnt equal out to the price of low end items you could buy in equal amount, but probably get better benefits in the end. Demigods - so you get to choose from 8 different champions if you will. they are split up into Generals and Assassins. Assassins to more damage and are good at killing other Demigods. Generals on the other hand seem to be more focused on Supports, but also have the unique ability to summon more units. as far as i can tell, they all have actual abilities that summon units unique to them. you can also Buy units for them to summon. once you buy a unit you dont have to buy it again. you can buy up to 3 units which there are only 3 to choose from) and you can upgrade them too. (i find its best to just buy the upgraded Tier 4 unit. it costs more to buy Tier 1 then Tier 2 etc.) the units arent too expensive even at Tier 4, but they do cost mana to Summon. but thats about all the difference is between them. The max level for a Demigod is 20 though, at least in Single Player, i find the match usually ends when im somewhere between 15-20, i dont usually make it to 20. Each demi god has Several Abilities unique to them abilities to choose from (and one Generic tier that upgrades health and mana and such, all champions have this, its the same for all of them). you cannot get all the abilities. id say there are only 30 abilities if i had to guess, you have 20 points. some abilities are only available after you hit a certain level, and others are only available if you put points into specific other abilities. The trees arent very complex, but its still a nice unique feature of the game. Also, all the Demigods actually play pretty uniquely. only being 8 i guess this is a good thing.. Balance with them seem pretty fair. none are OP or jsut plain horrible (single player anyways, online could be a different issue) that said, there are some i like more then others, and i tend to play Assassins more. which i think is because Generals, as i said, are more supports, and i see them being more useful (rather more fun) when played online. AI - its bad. thats all i can really say. both sides. ive killed enemies who are just standing there, not moving at all. ive gotten into fights that should have been 2v1 or 3v1, but my allies would just sit back and watch, idk. the enemies dont really react to anything. one enemy would walk into 3 allies and die. same for allies into enemies. they do react to low health and will start running away. and this next part is one of my biggest dislikes about the game. You can Teleport while your being hit. As i said before, your main income of Gold is from killing enemy Demigods, but when one gets real low on health, they will often times just teleport out! because being attacked doesnt cancel it! This is EXTREMELY annoying to me. i would go as far as to say, my most hated thing about this game. Enemies will heal themselves and buy items. they will also buy upgrades to the Citidel, and still manage to have better items then you equipped (allies as well as enemies lol) Control/Navigationg - there are multiple things in this category. all having to do with how you move around the map or click on things. you cannot click on the minimap to send your Demigod someplace. you have to actually click where you want him to go. also, clicking on the minimap doesnt move the camera. the minimap is not an object, so if you go to click on it, you are actually just clicking on the map behind the minimap. very annoying to me. you can zoom in and out, and out to a point where you can see the entire map, so you can click on the map to send your Demigod to that area. while the minimap would just be much easier, at least it saves you from having to drag your screen around. I must also note, you will find yourself zoomed in a lot, because as i said, watching all the action is pretty cool. you move the camera around using WASDQE. youll do it a lot, especially when you get near flags (because they are big and can block view) or when you get into a fight with the Demigod Rook (hes very big and you can lose site of your own Demigod under him)...there is no fast easy way to center the camera on your hero (like the SpaceBar in LoL) double tapping your Portrait will center the camera...You cannot view items in shops (or upgrades for the Citadel) unless you are next to them. this is very annoying for new players who are trying to look at item stats and prices. you cant do that while you send your Demigod to the other side of the map....lastly, hitting ESC, doesnt close out windows. want to see the scoreboard, or look at stats for your champ? remember to Press the X in the corner when you are done. Items - very limited. there are a decent amount of items, but they arent varied. you wont find an item that Increase Health and Mana regen. or Attack Speed and Armor. for the most part its; Chestplate = Health/Armor/Regen, Helms = Mana/Mana Regen, Gloves = Attack/Attack Speed, Boots seem to do a little bit of everything, but still not crossing the boundaries, and only One boot (maybe two) actually increase movement speed. and all the heroes move pretty slow (though besides some that have abilities that increase Movement Speed, im pretty sure they all move at the same speed, i havent noticed and balance issues in terms of speed) so its really hard to customize your Demigod with items. I find myself getting them same items no matter who i play. Map - there are a few maps to choose from. labeled by recommended team sizes, 2v2, 3v3, 5v5 etc (5v5 being the max) though you can play a 5v5 map as 2v2 and vice versa. the maps though, while unique, are really only lane based. and by that i dont mean lane as in top bot mid. i mean that, for lack of a better term, in that you can only go down the paths. there is nothing connecting paths really. no jungle or anything. no brush to hide in. however its not as cut and dry as simple lanes. they do interconnect, and whatnot, but the path is the path. no way to quickly get from one side to the other without going all the way around (imagine in LoL if you had to go from bot lane to top lane but couldnt cut through the jungle) also, there is no Free Teleporting. you have to buy scrolls. (yet another way to eat up the Gold you really dont have enough of) these scrolls will teleport you to any friendly building or flag. but if you wanna go home, you have to use one of these or run all the way back. which doesnt go well when the Demigods already feel to move really slow (and cant be upgraded to go much faster). basically map navigation can feel and be a little slow at times. Towers/Structures - Light Towers, Archer Towers and Fortresses are littered around the map for both size (listed in terms of most common to least common) Light towers can take you down pretty fast, but not as fast as say LoL. Turret Diving is all very common in this game. you can actually get 2 or 3 of them firing at you and have enough time to run out (though itd be close, esp early game). Late game though, you can take these down with ease without taking much damage. Archer Towers are next. usually about 10 on the map (as opposed to maybe 30 Light Towers) not as strong, though can still take you out, but also not as much health either, making them easier to kill. Fortresses are the last type of defense, Very strong Health, about as much damage as Archer Towers, but only 1 or 2 on either side. the main point of this section was to note, while any of these will kill you (esp early game) they arent as deadly as say LoL. you and your enemies can and will be turret diving all game long. i think thats about it. it was long, and being an old game, im not sure how many people are even interested in this game, or at least enough to read through this entire thing haha. um. i would say the average game is about as long as an LoL game, 45min-1hr+. also as a last point, because you can have 5v5 matches, with only 8 heroes to choose from, you can have the same champ twice on your (or the other) team. on the other team it can get confusing. you can try to focus one down and the other pops in and you lose track of whos who. there should have been more heroes, especially if they were going to make 5v5 possible, i mean at least 10 Demigods would have been fine, so no one could be chose twice. but i guess online, this helps things, that way in 5v5 matches, you can really get stuck with a Demigod you dont like or dont know, since you cant run into the problem of someone already choosing your choice. but ya i think thats about it. the game can be really frustrating at time, especially if you try playing it on anything above easy haha. (i find Normal to be a Challenge lol) but it is a fun game, for the price. Also i MUST mention......ITS MODDABLE  EDIT: so i found out you can change some of the settings for the game such as XP Earn Rate and Gold Earn Rate, Starting Gold, etc ,etc. this is cool cause you can level up faster and start off with better equipment. However, i DO NOT recommend increasing Starting Gold Amount. This may seem like a fun idea, starting off strong, but Everyone, Enemy and Ally get this bonus. seems fair. but every AI will also get this pair of boots that gives you +15% Movement Speed, which in itself not that big of a deal. its Passive however is 10% chance to gain +50% Movement Speed for 10 seconds. since it takes a while to kill a bot fully decked out, that 10% triggers almost every battle, meaning when they run low on health, they can just outrun you, by a lot lol. even if you get these boots too, it wont amount to much, because a fully Decked out bot, even when you are decked out, is really hard to bring down, especially when they can run away really fast lol. leveling up faster and gaining gold faster is pretty fun though.
