REALbp
I'd say Fallout is more difficult, especially if you don't mod past level 20 and stay there. I could go the thief route in Oblivion and get to the point where (and not late in game) I could simply use my Bow while in sneak and kill every single mob in a dungeon without them ever even knowing i was there. Add in the ability to enchant every piece of gear you wear, and it's God Mode time, Oblivion style. If you mod Fallout w/the Mart's Mutant mods and a XFO style mod that increases radiation and crippled limb' effects (and other necessities) this game can be very, very difficult. With radiation (radiated food, anyone?) and limb crips, I think the necessities in Fallout place far more of a burden on a player than those in Oblivion. Yes, VATS can be God mode (once Reaper's Sprint is obtained) but at least it's fun to watch.
imready86k
Here's my estimate of the games, with brothers in arms hell's highway, i was done in 2 game hours, in vanilla oblivion i played countless 40 + hours and all the mods were out, yet i was entertained so after the 40+ hours i got bored , modded it up, and now i could spend a couple extra years on it. for fallout , well, after i got to rivet city, I said "a ship?" is there a city that is even styled nicer than or equal to megaton? it took me A while to figure out that big town, ten penny tower , etc were citys, they just dont resemble it like oblivion does, only megaton, . fallout 3 is basically a cluster of garbage camps surrounded by garbage, and radroachs that eat the garbage , poop the garbage so that molerats can eat the poop so that when the garage villagers hunt for molerat, they eat the nasty meat making them too lazy to build better citys cause they just ate recycled garbage poop. ten tower is a patched leaning tower of piza. its depressing, and you have to walk, walk walk . ok well anyway, i like the graphics, and the graphical features along with graphic lighting, fallout needs mods, and after 20 hours of vanilla game play i await the mods to come. scannerfish
Depends. The Reilly's rangers mission is arguably the fight of your life (at least in Fallout 3) without power armor, or a good weapon. Even with power armor, I had a hard time with that mission (then again, I was playing on hard. still my friends said it's hard on easy).
jgarling
Oblivion can be pretty hard if you are anything other than a Blade/Block tank. Play oblivion on max difficulty as a stealth character and I think you will find just how hard it is. @scannerfishTry doing that mission as a stealth melee character with a couple of stealth boys. Its really a cake walk then. But I agree... that whole mission is a campaign.
billypnats
Oblivion can be REALLY hard if you set difficulty to VERY HARD, and get FCOM.... once you reach lvl 14, the balrogs starts appearing.... ever killed a balrog on very hard? I uninstalled oblivion cus its so hard, and im too lazy to uninstall FCOM which is basically impossible. FAllout 3 can also be hard if you get mods, VATS can help a lot but can sometimes be gay, for example, the camera moves around too much and wastes time, and you can get shot during that wasted time, combined with damage during VATS mod, you can die alot *facepalm*

There are no Balrogs in any of the components of FCOM. FCOM makes Oblivion harder because it un-levels the world. You can run into high-level creatures when you are at low levels. FAllout 3 can also be hard if you get mods, VATS can help a lot but can sometimes be gay, for example, the camera moves around too much and wastes time, and you can get shot during that wasted time, combined with damage during VATS mod, you can die alot *facepalm* You are immune to gunfire and explosions while in VATS. I believe you are also immune to melee attacks but cannot swear to it.
drof50
Iv'e got Oblivion for P.C. and have had it for Xbox 360 and from what i can tell from the 6 -ish hours playing/ watching Fallout round one of my friends [ on 360 ] Fallout appears to be much more difficult. The combat in un-modded oblivion is quite easy [ playing on average because, well i guess i just suck ] fights in oblivion tend to be longer than in fallout especially as in fallout charecters have access to explosives however the fighting in fallout can get rather crippiling and intense even with pace-slowing and damage reducing V.A.T.S. also the level lists in fallout contain kinda mean appearances for low levels for example i don't know if this is always the case but outside the museum of history I encountered three or four supermutants at least one of wich had a hunting rifle and a minigun weilding super mutant brute me and my friend quickly discovered running away was pretty much the only option wich was realistic , you can't win every fight by running in, however vanilla oblivion seems to be much more forgiving on lower levels.FAllout 3 can also be hard if you get mods, VATS can help a lot but can sometimes be gay, ok first off *insert using gay as an insult type rant here* there now that's done  anything can be hard using mods removing the level lists on oblivion resulted in me encountering an ogre as a level 2 charecter, if this thread is discussing which game is harder i think we should be judging the vanilla versions of both games IMHO it's the only way that seems fair. Also surley it's not just combat that makes a game hard? I think it's harder to make money in Fallout 3 selling loot can get a few caps but keeping your weapons and armour in shape isn't cheap either not to mention getting medical assistance then buying the supplies for your next outing in to the wasteland. Whereas in oblivion theres no need to pay to get healed items normally don't cost too much to get repaired and even if a charecters armour/weapon is damaged it doesn't seem to make that much difference to the amount of damage it does making it much easier to keep hold of the money you earn.Thought I'd share my thoughts  Feel free to discount everything i just said as idiotic ramblings.
Lady Azura
Man, you've got point...There are no magical potions in Fallout 3, and you can't become invisible, so actually, it makes things worse a little...Personally, although I like Oblivion better than any other game, Fallout 3 is much more difficult for someone who is used to magic staffs and invisibility potions.... :whistling:
