RealStarPlayer
So, my current laptop was only able to run Skyrim on the lowest possible settings. That is, until I dropped it and broke the internal fan, making it overheat whenever Skyrim was played. Anyway, I decided it was time to graduate to a new laptop for around $500. I've found this one, and I was wondering if any of you know just how well I'll be able to play Skyrim on it. Dell Inspiron 15R 15.6" Core i5 1TB HDD Notebook http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008UUDCRU/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller= If anybody can shed some light on this situation, I'd appreciate it greatly. Thanks. Edited February 13, 2013 by RealStarPlayer
Adder1
Huh. 1TB hard drive, 8 GB RAM... looks good, man, looks go- "Intel HD graphics 4000" NAW MAN DON'T DO IT DON'T DO IT MAN NO DON'T
RealStarPlayer
I thought Intel HD 4000 could run Skyrim on medium.
Adder1
Well, medium, sure. If you specifically want to play Skyrim on medium, then sure, you should be able to run it, especially with performance-boosting mods such as HiAlgo Boost and texture optimizing mods such as SMCO and Ordenator available. It'll be fine if you just want that. But, if you want to play other games- at least more modern ones- well... to be truthful, integrated graphics cards suck. A lot. I say this from experience because I'm using one- an Intel HD Graphics. Period. No 3000, no 4000. Just... Intel HD. It's not fun, let me tell you. I'm just trying to offer some advice here- if you're planning to game, you'll want a dedicated graphics card. Or at least an integrated AMD card. JohanPortman
Recently ive bought HP notebook with 2.4Ghz AMD A8, 6Gb ram, AMD Radeon 7690M.. 1360*768 resolution.. Skyrim running well at medium settings, but fps drops too much at high settings.. probably i could take a look at mods you advised, Adder.
Adder1
HiAlgoBoost- Basically dynamically changes your pixel resolution as you play. Standing still, you get full resolution when you can actually notice it. When you're moving and/or turning? It lowers it. Saves a ton of FPS.SMCO- Texture optimization. Even comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and it has a very simple, clean interface. I advise you only optimize DDS and BSA with DDS only. NIF optimization might go awry and cause crashes. Which is bad.Ordenator- Noticeably slower than SMCO but with loads more options. What this has going over SMCO is that is can unify redundant files in your BSA's, can resize patterns, can turn textures into mipmaps for faster loading, and can reduce/correct texture resolutions. That last one has been a boon with my wimpy Intel HD Graphics. Downside? It can't convert certain texture types, though it'll do its darned best to optimize them (like ARG8... something, if I recall). However, SMCO can. So, I run that first and then Ordenator. Everyone's happy.
JohanPortman
Oh thank you, i just created thread in main mods branch asking for such advise :) Im going to try your suggestions no! Many thanks again!
JohanPortman
I installed HiAlgoBoost and there is a problem appeared. Turned on HiAlgoBoost LOWERS my FPS by 20-30%:) It seems that my processor A8 is not good enough for this videocard :(Ordenator mod compression gave me stable 2-4fps plus! Adder1
If you read the FAQ, HiAlgoBoost is for GPU-limited set-ups. I don't know your rig too well, but if you're actually CPU-limited, then HiAlgoBoost won't help you. That said, if they're about the same, then just turn off the dynamic resolution via SHIFT + END. Also, don't be afraid to use a secondary d3d9.dll tweaked for your system. I use one, and that definitely makes a difference.
JohanPortman
Oh, if i look complaining - sorry, wasnt meant to! :) Just curious, could you please tell me more about "d3d9.dll tweaked for your system" - i didnt really got what are you talking about :(
