cumbrianlad
Cats are the biggest threat to the modding community. I have proof! Don't let their doe eyes (cat eyes?), cute looks and lovely soft fur fool you! These creatures are both deadly and sinister. My own cat (Jessie) is no exception. I was doing Witcher 3 game testing for another mod author and wanting to go back to improving my own SSE mod after a lay-off for a time. I felt good. The phone rang and I answered, naturally. After hanging up I headed back to my chair. In the meantime, the devilish feline creature had curled up on a rug between me and the PC, as if she had foreseen my objective... unnerving, that. Quite chameleon-like, she had blended herself in with the rug near perfectly... diabolical, I'd say! At the last second, I saw her, mid-step! I desperately tried to avoid standing on her and did so at my own expense. I fell head first into the chair and launched my glass of water all over the PC! As the noxious fumes of frying GTX 1060 GPU assailed my nostrils, I knew that my wallet was about to be severely dented and that all hope of modding or game-testing were now out of the window (along with Jessie, who had chosen this means of escape after her close shave with my boot). After installing an old and pretty useless GPU, setting it all up again only to find it can't even play TW3 and struggles with SSE, I found her cleaning her paws in the bathroom, an impish expression on her face, as if to say "No more computers for you for a while, eh?". Want to mod Skyrim, or any other game? Don't get a cat! *I have used a bit of poetic license in the telling of this tail... sorry, tale... I've got cats on the brain... it is more or less what happened, though. P.S. as is the nature of cats, Jessie has used her inate magic to ensure that I forgive her totally. I think she did all of this because I don't let her on my lap when modding. Nor do I let her curl up on my keyboard. She resents these behaviours of mine, quite clearly. Adventurer1111
Funny story... poor kitty. I suggest you continue modding, keep you cat, and place your wine in a coffee tumbler. Everyone is happy :) I have two cats and was doing a dog mod and every so often one of the cats would come over and pounce at the monitor to try to catch the dog on the screen. I had to move my monitor so it was backed to a wall after having my own Cat-astrophe with a broken monitor. I would suggest that also.
cumbrianlad
Ha! I now keep my water in a bottle with a straw and a folding nozzle... totally cat-prooof! Jessie loves sitting on my keyboard/PC desk or anything with paper on... never understood why cats love paper? thanks for the advice about monitors. I'd anticipated this so my monitor is relatively cat-proof. I say "relatively" because nothing is ever totally cat-proof... ... you've got cats so you know what I mean. I adore their individuality and self-reliance. That's what makes them cats. It's also why I'm drawn to them. Anyway... "Poor kitty"? She was fine. My £300 GPU was not! Prrrrrrrr..... or should I say... Grrr..... Anyhow, pleased to see some life in this forum and someone with a good sense of humour! Pleased to meet you! cumbrianlad
So you think, Hanaisse. It is just biding its time, poised, elegant, nonchalant and charming, waiting for the optimal moment to strike!... then... ... pop goes the computer! ...meeow, says the cat, happy that its evil work is done. cumbrianlad
Thanks for the (non-existant) outpouring of sympathy/empathy for my cat related destruction of my PC. It is now fixed, as you'll probably be utterly unconcerned about.. only cost a few hundred pounds! Ouch! If I didn't know better, I'd say that was quite 'catty'.* Hey, ho! I've now invested in a drink bottle that can't spill. A bit like going back to being a baby. Sweet. At least it keeps the relationship between myself and my cat on an even keel. *Humour was ever/never my forte!
NexBeth
Old-timer IT person taught me straight away never to put drinks of any kind anywhere near PC. And I don't. Have a special small cabinet next to my chair with a nice textured top for all that kind of stuff.
