DaemonGrin
Ok awhile back I posted about how textures render in geck and ingame for me only if I have the meshes linked to my work folder which is in my documents. They will not render when (flicker/absorb near by textures in geck and ingame) I link the meshes texture paths to the data/textures folder for my mod. Now I never actually asked but is the reason this might be occuring due to the fact I have win 7 with steam and games in the program files (x86) folder? I'm not a avid PC gamer if this location is the cause and this may seem like a dumb question but would moving the steam folder to say my Games folder affect anything? Thanks! Xaranth
It MAY. C:\Games\ is unprotected by UAC, which can cause... difficulties. The usual problem is with writes, though. I missed your earlier problem, could you give me a more detailed rundown on what you're experiencing and doing? Either link or PM or post here. DaemonGrin
First I am trying to organize all the mod work I do into it's own folders i.e. data > textures > mymod > which is broken up into sub folders for clutter, dungeons etc. same for meshes data > meshes > mymod > etc. But in geck and ingame when they are linked within the fallout new vegas folders they do not render. Instead the textures flicker or take on the textures of nearby objects. However when I link the fallout new vegas > data > meshes > mymod meshes to mymod working folder in my documents folder they render perfectly in the geck and ingame. So I was wondering if its the UAC issue.
Xaranth
Do you mean an actual link, as in a path redirect like a shortcut or using NTFS to mount a volume inside a folder? Or are you talking about actually keeping the assets in fallout new vegas\data\meshes\YourMod\subFolder and all, and the game won't find them? DaemonGrin
Linked as in changing the textures in Nifskope to my new texture and saving as a new model. The models work perfectly but the textures don't when I change the texture path to the new vegas data texture path. Only when I leave the textures in mydocuments and linked the texture location in the meshes to them do they appear correctly. I guess geck and game can't find them even though they are applied correctly in the data > textures > mymod > subfolders. It's driving my crazy I know if I release it on nexus I will need to have my textures placed in the FNV texture folder but in order for me to test the appearance etc I have to set the textures in mydocuments to the meshes in FNV meshes which means changing the textures in each model all over again after changing from the default textures once already. TextureSets do the same thing or that would have solved my issue long ago.
Xaranth
I recommend you start by moving your steam installation. Mine is in C:\Games If this is a UAC/Pathing issue, that's the first step.
DaemonGrin
Awesome the link was very helpful and it seems to have fixed the buggy textures now I can link directly to the fnv files. Thanks Xaranth!
