Xaranth
Okay, a cursory search revealed nothing of interest on this subject, so I thought I'd toss it out and see what you lot know, if anything. New Vegas has been crashing on game save for me for most of the morning. Not always, and it seems to be related to use of the 'pcb' command. Yes, yes, if it's making me crash while saving don't use the 'pcb' command. I was just wondering if anyone had any theories about why the game would be doing this, or any thoughts you lot have on the subject. I suppose the save engine COULD be attempting to read those purged block and going splat when it finds null references, but I don't like that theory, mainly 'cause it's both too easy and if it were that simple there'd be more talk about it. Honeybiscuit
What kinda cpu are you running? and what kinda os? That make a difference. Dont ask me why. Back in the day ran good with vista where others had trouble 2010. Got it back its and overkill so have to reduce ram. Hope it helps. Also found that that isnt the case either on some systems. see if u have the new .Net from 3 and 4. and got ur windows live deactivated plugin from here
JimboUK
What I've found helps is go to an interior cell, wait 4 days, make a new save, completely exit the game, restart, load that save up and then don't overwrite any of the old saves, make a new batch. SMB92
I can't remember your LO but are you using CASM? No scratch that you are, I remember your little graph. I only know one thing about this and that's if a previous save however far back got corrupted or you accidentally forgot to make a full save before you removed a mod this happens at some point down the track. On my Toshy my game would freeze occasionally on save due to the sudden FPS drop and it was like the game couldn't recover. I think the CPU drops the process if it doesn't receive a response from the memory within a certain amount of seconds. Idk if it's that technical but that's what I know about saves :)
Xaranth
Thank you for all the advice. An update: I determined that FNV would crash when attempting to save any time a buffer purge was made. I ignored it until the first time I tried to fast travel; the game automatically purges buffers on FT. Solution: I deleted all my saves except the most recent, disabled all mods that didn't have 'progress' I wanted to keep, made a clean save with almost no mods, and then re-enabled all my mods. Seems to be working, now. I have to turn hardcore back on and test that. Re-enabling hardcore re-enabled the problem. Going to try it again without hardcore, just in case it turns out my testing wasn't thorough enough. Edited February 22, 2013 by Xaranth
