Might Start A New Project: Demongel's Underwater Overhaul (WORKING

DemongelRex

Recommended Posts

Hello all. For The longest time I hated underwater. I played Skyrim on PS3 before switching to PC, and it was horrible.

There is nothing to do underwater, no dungeons, hardly any good treasure, hardly any enemies, no underwater combat, nothing.

I have watched the modding community for over a year and it seems no one has created a modification to one of Skyrim's biggest problem's.

Well on January 2, 2013, I finally built a powerful rig, one powerful enough to handle skyrim at 60 fps with every ridiculous high res texture there is and there is still no underwater combat or anything. So then I started looking at creation kit tuorials, skse, dragon script, resources, and finally I think I am ready to take on the challenge starting today. I have written everything, drew sketches of models, concept art all in my trusty idea notebook, and now I present the idea to you, the Nexus community...

DEMONGEL'S

UNDERWATER

OVERHAUL!

A.K.A. "D.U.O."

(Working Title)

I. Aim of the mod

II. Main Features

III. Hopeful compatibility/Implementation

IV. Wanna help me out?

V. Secondary features (Non-Priority)

VI. User Ideas

I. The Aim of this mod is to completely change the behavior of npc's underwater.

No more being able to swim with almost 100lb of armor equipped!

II. Main Features

*All heavy armor and some light armors will sink you to the bottom of whatever body of water you are in. Included in this are: Daedric, Orcish, Dwarven, Steel, Iron (and it's variations), Ebony, Elven, Glass, and Dragon. (If I have forgotten any Heavy armors, please let me know.) Kind of like in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with the iron boots. Thats kind of what I'm going for here.

*You cannot swim in ANY robes (How could you swim in those? They cover your feet and restrict mobility underwater)

*Fur, Scale, and Leather armors can be swimmed in, but they will get saturated and become heavy, causing you to swim much slower.

So if everything encumbers you

what can you use to swim

regularly underwater???

Swimming Suits Of Course!

*This mod will add swimsuits that give fully mobility underwater. So when you want to go underwater, just put these on and dive in!

-Crafting Recipe's At Tanning Rack (WORK IN PROGRESS): 8 SlaughterFish Scale's, and 4 of a new item I want to add called Smooth Leather

-Smooth Leather can be crafted with (WORK IN PROGRESS): 1 Leather, 1 Frost Salt

*To be added once the actual suit is complete: Flippers, Swim Mask

The Waterbreathing Enchantment will be completely Nerfed.

Instead, there will be a new way to breath underwater: The Dwarven Lung

These CANNOT be crafted, the technology is just to advanced for Nords to understand!

Instead they will be placed in dwarven ruins, or perhaps I will place them in a custom dungeon in Blackreach.

I have not decided yet.

Not only can you breathe underwater, but you can also shout underwater and speak with npc's underwater!

I plan on making a seperate mod in the future that has underwater questlines and dungeons.

Another New Item: Dwemer Goggles!

The Dwemer Goggles will give the ability for the player to see underwater because the goggles remove darkness underwater and the fog!(I am sure someone has already made this mod, but mine will function differently)

Again, these will not be craftable

Underwater Combat! (Finally!!!!)

This mod's intention is to add underwater combat to the game. It will be Logical however:

While Swimming...

*No Duel Wielding (How can you swim with both of your hands occupied?)

*No Bow's or Crossbows (There will be a way to shoot underwater though)

*No Two Handed Weapon's (For obvious reasons)

*No Destruction Magic with the exception of Lightining (See Below)

*Can only have on spell equipped at any time (You need 1 hand to swim)

*Are limited to Tridents, Spears, and Shell Guns (My intention is to make them one handed)

While on the underwater surface...

*Can use all weapons except bow's and crossbows

*Swing speed of two handed reduced by 80% and damage reduced by 65%

*Swing Speed of one handed reduced by 50% and damage reduced by 35% (Tridents and Spears recieve no penalty)

*Can use shields!

So what are these New Weapons I have mentioned?

*Tridents will be the main weapon of underwater combat. They will have variations and a new animation I hope to implement

*The animation is the stabbing motion. (The one you get when you use a power attack with a sword in your left hand)

*They will be used with shields very effectively. Same rules apply to spears, except they are weaker

*They will be craftable in all standard variations and enchantable EXCEPT FOR SHOCK ENCHANTMENTS

*Shell Gun's will be the only means on ranged combat underwater.

This is the recipe I have formulated (WORK IN PROGRESS): 1 crossbow, a chaurus shell (Custom item), and a dynamo core

*They will also have custom ammo I have lazily named darts. They are craftable in all variations with 1 of their respective ingots.

*Darts are MUCH heavier than arrows, since they need to be heavy enough to travel fast through water and are made of pure metal. Thusly they are 1 pound. THIS MIGHT CHANGE.

Magic, Water, and You

Destruction Spells do not work underwater, except electric spells.

Using electric spells underwater will severely damage you and everyone around you

Spells from the other schools will work fine.

***I hope to implement proper magic effects on water. For example, shooting fire at the surface of an any body of water will cause steam effects and a sizzling sound. Shooting Ice spells at any body of water will cause a small ice raft that you can jump on. Lighting damages all creatures underwater within a certain radius.

Perks (WORK IN PROGRESS)

Mermaid Swiftness - Allows one to swim very fast for sometime using the sprint key. Will have own animation hopefully.

Underwater Titan - Allows player to move faster on surface while wearing a full suit of heavy armor.

MORE IDEAS TO COME!

III. Implementation and compatibility

My main concern for compatibility is for :

Skyrim Redone

ERSO Realistic Skyrim Overhaul

FrostFall

Wet and Cold

Immersive Weapons and Immersive Armors

The Three Official DLC's

These are NOT priority however. If someone would like to make compatibility patches in the future, please by all means

IV. Wanna help me out?

Bear in mind that I am one person who is inexperienced. I will try my best to complete this project but it really helps when I have people to help me out. Especially with animations and texturing, I suck at those. I might even start a modding team, if people are interested!

So if you are good at animations, modeling, and/or texturing and want to assist me in the making of this mod, please PM me ASAP and I will try my best to respond quickly.

I could also use some tips from and experienced coder so I make sure my code is rock solid...

V. Secondary Features/ Other Ideas:

Create a new Race: The Maomer (Sea Elves) LORE FRIENDLY

Coral Reefs in the Ghost Sea

Make more sea creatures (Probably will need help with this) Not just slaughterfish...

More Underwater Loot

Underwater Dungeons

Dynamic Rain

Hair Saturation

Possible New Area in ocean/ Ocean city... (In the FAR future)

VI. User Idea's

Have a good idea? Post it in the comments and I will put it to a vote and up here!

And Thank you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds good in most parts. Exept...

*You cannot swim in ANY robes (How could you swim in those? They cover your feet and restrict mobility underwater)

Robes wont prevent swimming. Restricts yes, but wont prevent. Just try to jump in lake wearing robe if you wont believe. :)

The Waterbreathing Enchantment will be completely Nerfed.

I see no reason for this.

Just add those as enchantments or something... Messing with perks probably just causes conflicts with other perk altering mods (SkyRe ect.).

Coral Reefs in the Ghost Sea

No coral reefs in arctic seas.

I would be happy basically anything added underwater, but preferably lore friedly and not too complicated.

I just felt that the water breathing enchantment was too...boring if

you know what I mean. It is useful, but putting the enchantment on any

necklace then being able to just swim underwater with no effects or

extra abilities whatsoever kinda seems silly. If it put a bubble of

some sort over your head when you go underwater, it would be better.

However, the ability to shout underwater with the dwarven lung is something I personally think is a great idea. Also, maybe I will not completely nerf waterbreathing enchantment, but rather diminish it. Say maybe you cannot breathe at the sea floor, because of the water pressure? The dwarven lung is something that could be used by followers too and other npc's. I feel like it would mainstream it a bit.

Regarding the Robes, I will change it too slowly swimming instead of no swimming

Regarding the perks...I use SkyRe, and I love the perks. I would love to implement my perks into its perk tree's, kinda like how frostfall did with SkyRe. I feel that not every inexperienced swimmer should be able to enchant their suit so be able to swim fast. I feel one should progress to that point, but who knows? I would love to hear other's opinions before making anything set in stone.

And coral reefs. I was thinking of making a questline which took you to the ocean south of Tamriel with islands and underwater cities....I feel that SOMETHING needs to be added to the Ghost Sea though...Maybe a sunken ghost ship?

Thread! You mustn't die!

Dramatics aside, I'd really like a mod expanding the underwater mechanics and enemies of the game(without being unfitting) and possibly extending the water border by Castle Volkihar and other areas near the sea.

Edit: Wait, this thread's already dead, huh?

... :pinch:

This thread is NOT dead. I decided I needed to become more familiar with the creation kit, modeling, and scripting.

I have discovered that trying to make new animations underwater would require FNIS however, I haven't the time to learn how to do this yet. Has anyone seen the flying mod? Basically it would would like that for things such as swimming fast, however it would be very buggy, this is just the limitation of the engine. Also I am having trouble of finding an effective way for the game to read that you are underwater with certain equipment to slow you down, stop you from moving, etc.

If there are any experienced coders that could help me with this that would be great. Also about the animations, that's a obstacle as well. I will be more active on this post
