DynV
I seems I've broken a quest I'd really like to complete and I found no way to fix it. What happened is after finding ways to increase my speech, I went back to try to make the check for Hard Answers, although earlier I tried to sneak my way to avoid that and failed and didn't know there was the workaround Reveal hidden contents of doing Nimhe, the Poisoned One to get in legally. At that time I tried to set the earlier stage and failing that tried to reset the quest (to then set it to that earlier stage), but it didn't change in the journal, thus still appearing as before I tried those commands. I thought nothing of it and did the workaround; after completing it, Hard Answers was gone from my journal; I then tried to reset it, failing that to set it to a previous or later stage. I then tried to teleport to Karliah, but after another map was loaded she wasn't there, I tried it again and was in the same map and still no sign of her; the teleportation destination was The Frozen Hearth Cellar. I then tried to start the next quest, The Pursuit, in vain. I've also tried to set Hard Answers stage to completion in vain. I've reset the earlier quest, Speaking With Silence, then it appeared in the journal with all its sub-points completed, then set its stage to the 1st, 10, but nothing changed in the journal. I then tried to teleport to Karliah but it was as earlier (same map and no sign of her). I then tried the other stages of Speaking With Silence with the same result. I've stolen in that map in the hope Karliah would be jolted to reality to try to take the item back, but a guard came instead. I intend to continue stealing things and would like the benefits of completing the guild main quest. The latest save that has Hard Answers in its journal is many game-play hours back. At the very least I'd want to fork from it and set it to to my current level & skills, and possibly the same inventory on both my PC and his stash (I put everything I can in there, so there would likely be a good amount missing), or perhaps there's a way to find the value of my stash, so I'd compare the worth of my current game, and the one I'd fork from then add myself the missing value. If a fork is needed, I'd rather not give my PC 50K gold while the stash addition was only 25K. Even if I was to get the NPC status to the same, I'd have to redo a lot as I disenchanted, enchanted, and created multiple potions, which I'd have to redo, so fixing the quest in my current game would be best. I'd appreciate assistance in this matter. Update 1: If it's necessary to look at the save file to fix the problem, here it is. Please note you'd likely have to run the command "sisme 0" from a bug that was there a good amount of hours before I did the commands that led to this issue. nt5raham
I feel your pain. In a similar situation I went back to a previous clean save and re-played 160 hours of real-time gaming. I had about 375 hours invested, so deleting 160 hours was the logical choice because I didn't have a sure way to correct it and not have save corruption down the road. In the long run I'm glad I bit the bullet, cut my losses, and got on with it. Sorry, I'm not aware of another way to fix the problem. If deleting the saves bothers you, you can always "quarantine" the corrupted fork in another folder and save it for later in case another option becomes available. DynV
I go over that possibility in the 2nd paragraph along with concerns, if you'd kindly address them.

Perhaps your 2nd paragraph I am seeing as the 3rd? Dunno. In the next paragraph you explain why you don't want to go back to a previous save, or if you do you want to have certain conditions met. "many game-play hours back" I described deleting 160 hours of my own game play (addressing your concern here). What I am saying is that you can't have your cake and eat it, too. The cleanest thing I have found to do is simply delete it and start from a clean save before there was a bunch of monkeying around under the hood. Sorry if the way I addressed it was not what you were wanting to hear. Console commands are for developers and mod authors testing the product, not for players who want to circumvent what the game is doing (good or bad). We as players may sometimes use console commands to attempt to fix a bug or glitch, but it isn't guaranteed and technically isn't supported. "No lifeguard on duty. Swim at your own risk." Once we start using console commands and workarounds, we have to accept that we are going outside of the normal game framework and possibly (probably) messing things up that we can't see. Sometimes a certain point is reached where we simply have to stop, go back to a clean point, and start again. In my situation, I had gone completely through the entire Thieves Guild questline, including the 125 jobs and getting the safe at the end. I had also done many, many other things along the way, including smithing, enchanting, etc. To ensure my game was clean going forward, I did all 160 hours over again. I am well past that point, over 400 hours into my playthrough, and my game is stable and happily humming along. Looking back, I am glad that I did it. "It seems I've broken a quest." I don't have any better suggestion to address the situation you have described, sorry if you don't like the answer I gave when I addressed it. Determine where you know for certain it is clean. As for everything after that, delete it and move on. All of the potions, disenchanting/enchanting, etc. will still be waiting for you to do again. nt5raham
Perhaps the way I am describing it is not clear, sorry if that is the case. Let me put it another way: If you go back to a previous save, you want to have it as close as possible to the way it was regarding wealth, items/objects, level, skills, etc. I am saying, go back to a previous save and forget all of that. The more you manually try to circumvent the game like that, the more likely you are to mess things up. Just play it again, Sam. I am not suggesting that you do something that I was not willing to do myself. In hindsight, it is worth it.
DynV
Maybe you didn't see the 2nd paragraph, here it is Quote I intend to continue stealing things and would like the benefits of completing the guild main quest. If a fork is needed, I'd rather not give my PC 50K gold while the stash addition was only 25K.Please see the above italicized part, especially the bold ones, it mentions a possibility is to fork a save. Then I ask how to set the skills & level the same along with a way to calculate the value of my stash, so I can do it to both saves, then add myself the difference in gold to the forked save. DynV
I was replying to the post #4 in my previous post while you posted #5. I'll take my chance and advance the skills, level, and my gold + stash value, to match or come close. You can write me you told me so if I ever have a problem from that fork related to those issues. Update 1: If you feel you'd don't want to help someone make that person life worse by assisting with the OP 2nd paragraph (which I assume is your belief), I understand. nt5raham
Skills can be changed by using player.advskill <SkillID> # (where # is the number of skill points being added to that particular skill). Unfortunately, the skills are not set up uniformly, and it takes a different number of skill points to raise different skills (by skill points I don't mean 1-100, I mean the points you get behind the scenes when you do things). Here's a general guide: https://www.ign.com/wikis/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim/PC_Console_Command_Cheats#Level_Up For some reason, Enchanting and Smithing got left off of their skill list under AdvSkill, but they work basically the same way. Note that Lockpicking takes 7 points per skill level, and Speechcraft takes 1,914. Also, pay attention to the spelling of the skill ID because it doesn't always match the spelling of the skill, and note that Archery is using the skill ID Marksman. Raising your skills is how you raise your level in the game. Doing it via player.advskill will take a little time (less than actually playing, obviously), but is the least destructive method of which I know. You can raise your level directly using console commands, but it is not as "clean" and I wouldn't suggest using it to continue a playthrough. As you raise your skills with player.advskill, you will see all of the normal messages as your skill progresses 1-100, attaining levels as you go. You will need to go into the Skills menu and level up as you go, choosing Magicka, Health or Stamina as usual. In other words, it works pretty much like normal game play, except you aren't having to pick the locks and do damage with your weapon. As far as estimated wealth, I have no clue. You probably already know you can add gold using player.additem f #.
nt5raham
Also, please note the warning on the web page from the link I sent to you: Note: Some console command cheats can cause bugs later on, or cause situations which may "break" certain quests. If you're unsure of your game's stability, don't save your game after using the command and disable autosaves in the main menu.
