Vagrant0
The problem that I've found with places like deserts and ice shelves and grassy plains is that the distant lands don't always show and you can see the end of the quad at certain times. You can overcome this by making the area slightly hilly but even then you may see the end of the quad when at the top of a hill. That problem really only exists if you are using an area more than 3 quads wide. While this might be the case with something as large as what you are attempting, for most people, that would be beyond anything they would sanly attempt to finish. Even still, much of that can be covered up using slight fog and other atmosphere settings. For a desert or glacier, those effects make good sense visually, if you can get them looking right. And there is nothing to say that you can't have your plains sorrounded by mountains or other features which are outside the playable area. Afterall, YOU are the one designing that terrain, so YOU can be in control of what you want people to see, and what you don't. There is nothing saying that you can't have some hills, rocks, or valleys, nor is there anything saying that you need to have a totally flat area 50 cells wide. You do what you can to achieve the look that you want.
exanimis
I agree, I've found that you can accomplish a lot with a well placed cloud.
armageddon818
erm...Jack's post seems to be being ignored...can we get back on topic? I didnt mean that it should be UNDERWATER...god knows that would be hell to make. I was thinking more along the lines of water-centric civilization. Water worshiping that kind of thing. And really underwater city has been done...bravil sea dome, Bioshock... the usual. (not to say those weren't unique lol) Maybe I just like water a lot, who knows? Well then again i adore nature in general, as hippie as that sounds. Hugging trees is only creepy when people are around...
Otterian
I'd love to help make a new world. I'm not that experienced, and have never tried making scripts or quests, but I have a lot of ideas. As you can see, I haven't released any mods yet (although I have made tons of personally mods) because I planned on having all of them incorporated into one giant world mod. I gave up on that after about three days, even though I made a whole city, because it is too much work making all the terrain and trees and stuff. I can help with making armors and weapons (mostly re-textures but also a few mesh tweaks here and there, plus some ideas for new meshes), city structure and layout, basic NPC making, and some quest ideas. If your looking for a name, I say Otteria, and I like the idea of having multiple climates [maybe 1/3 temperate, 1/3 tropical, 1/6 volcanic, 1/6 artic (I have an idea for this one), and maybe stick in a desert somewhere f you want]. I also have an idea of how to get there, and part of the quest around it.

Otterian
i don't really know what general shape it should be, all i know is that if there are volcanic or arctic ends, they should be on opposite ends of the island. The volcanic end should look like the place where the princess/dragon's castle is in Shrek (at least that's how I imagine it), a volcano, and some lowlands with small bodies of lava everywhere and a daedric-style citadel where and evil magic dude is gonna live. As for the rest of the land....uh....there should be a nice bit plateau somewhere (large enough for a city/town), a gulf for the port city, umm....a river that empties into the ocean (and that's where the player will shipwreck, then go up the heavily forested riverbank, meet a hermit or two, and find a cave at the end of a tributary where a tribe of cave-dwelling people live in fear of a giant slaughterfish live▬yes that's from a book, I'll be honest) which leads up to a nice big waterfall/lake/valley upon which another city (that might be the capitol depending on how it looks when it's finished) is built. Perhaps we should use the leyawiin concepthttp://www.elderscrolls.com/art/obliv_conceptart.htm somewhere. We need both highlands and lowlands and plains and forests (lots of forests▬that makes up a good portion of the island) and maybe a swamp, too. Oh, what else....I want to try to have at least one of every geological feature (I'm looking at a map of my history textbook which i wish I could show u a picture of) If you want to, how about a strait/peninsula/isthmus/cape (whatever you want)....uhh....make part of the seashore on one side of an island (just a small stretch of land) with a really high cliff along the seashore. Wow I have a lot more ideas than I though. That's my input, just to get you going, use whatever you wish. Like I said, I like forests. Whether we make lots of little ones, or one great big forest, I'll be happy.
Otterian
Sorry I didn't even answer your question, no I do not have Skype. I was looking up my textbook on google for that picture of all the geographical features and I founds a nice picturehttp://www.electricscotland.com/pictures/images/glencoe.jpgAin't that purdy? Wanna give it a shot? Well it's mostly just the bright grass that makes it look good, but that would make a nice highland segment.I haven't even gotten all the quests yet :P wow they have some angus smilies on this site  :stupid: :miner:
