CTD in 'Open World' persists after clean install

Here are the last few lines of my Papyrus log. I probably got 2 hours in this time before any CTD.. also a lot of running in the open world which usually causes CTD within just a couple minutes. It's improvement but usually once I CTD the first time it keeps happening rapidly thereafter. My save-game still isn't bloated, only @ 7.99mb.

I did have Crimson Tide mod installed, then after reading the last few pages on the thread for that mod everyone was saying the author abandoned the mod and it is not up-to-date with new patches. So I uninstalled Crimson Tide.. Could that cause exterior CTD? I don't have a 'clean' save but my character right now is only level 10 and I don't mind restarting (for the 4th time) but am kinda @ the point of asking myself - Why bother? I haven't uninstalled any other mods on this install of Skyrim but am hardly convinced that a mod I UNINSTALLED would be causing only exterior CTD and in a time frame of anywhere between 10 minutes of game play to one hour...

Well, welcome to the club. Your problem is not caused by crimson tide (I believe, I don't know all about that mod) but instead the file LvlPredatorScript.psc. I just found out about it after i got to level 14, and spent perhaps 3 hours working on making my character look just right. Turns out if you install a mod that changes that script (like skytest) and then uninstall it, the game will CTD when it tries to tinker with animals. Worse off, if you are like me and don't remember what mod you installed that could cause it, the only fix is a new game. If you do know the mod, you can load back to a save before you uninstalled the mod, reinstall the mod, and then continue as always - without ever removing that mod.

So your best bet is a restart. I for one do not want to ditch the character I just spent hours making (It's how I get my fun in this game :p) so I will probably see if reverting back to the earliest save I have and then advancing quests will work. Or i'll just ignore it and never go outside again :p

This is unfortunately a problem on a clean save as well and is not particularly mod related. It is a Skyrim problem that happens outdoors only, most often reported is outside Whiterun around the tundra, I've had experiences north of Falkreath, east of Markarth and once just south of Winterhold. There's no real fix, no real answer, perhaps eventually there will be, it wouldn't be impossible, unlike Z-fighting.
