  1. Well, I just got back to the spot that causes me to crash in a new game - and it's gone! Not only that, but I was also able to accept the redguard woman mission for once and not crash from that too! It looks like TES5Edit Cleaning the main files while also removing a good chunk of the mods/dropping the resolution on some of the HD mods helped a ton, but best of all Skyrim still looks just as good, perhaps lacking a bit, but not a whole ton. Thanks for the help, the game is running great now!
  2. Got it now, thanks! I will do mod by mod, I rather take the time to make my game stable than keep restarting every day :/
  3. I see now. So, for example (but this applies to other areas of Skyrim), before the watch tower, certain animals are disabled in that area. I run aroujd, doing other quests, and when I finally come back to the watch tower and kill the dragon, the animals are allowed to spawn again. So any mods that affect animals in particular could be a direct problem, no? I also noticed that a save I made in whiterun just after speaking with the jarl is 5000kb. Walk over to the field out of whiteout and save? 6,500kb. An additional 1500kb for walking out of whiterun. Ill ditch some of those mods, there are quite a few that really don't need to be in there, and I rather keep the ones that make the largest difference and sacrifice some of the smaller ones. If I had to guess, however, I think the bellyaches hd animals is causing this.
  4. I'll try to ditch some of the textures I guess, but I don't think my system is the limiter here. I have a GTX 670 4GB card, 8 GB Ram, and an i5-3570k, with GPU-Z reporting a max vram of just under 3gb. There are several people on another forum running off of this list http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/articles/843/ with very similar systems to mine. I didn't even install a lot of the mods on that list, but I did throw some into the mix - Skyrim Unleashed, Duel: Combat Realism, Balanced Magic, and Skyrim Project Optimization. What you say makes much more sense than what I am reading, but I'm not sure if I'm following on what is actually causing the CTD. I did the first mission for the legion - getting the jagged crown - I did bleak falls burrow, I did the first companions missions (up to and after going to retrieve a fragment of wuuthrad) , and I did the first dragon fight at the western watch tower all without a CTD. Then after all of that, after returning to dragonsreach to talk about the greybeards with the jarl, I then travel back out into skyrim and that is when the CTDs begin. Is this script disabled until after the player completes the western watch tower? I could understand how the CTD would arise then, but otherwise, I've been all throughout skyrim before that specific instance - just at a lower level - so how is it that now it begins to crash because I've progressed past a certain mission?
  5. Do you know how to post your papyrus logs? If so can you, if not let us know and we'll help you get them up here
  6. Hi, I have been plauged with CTDs lately, the sole cause being LvlPredatorScript.psc according to papyrus logs. I searched this in google and found that this file casues CTDs if you install a mod that edits AI and then uninstall it - the thing is I haven't uninstalled a single mod! On top of that after last save got corrupted by this nonsense, I deleted skyrim, deleted the appdata for skyrim, and deleted the INIs for skyrim. Redownloaded, reinstalled, brand spanking new - Yet I still have CTDs. What's even stranger is that they don't start right away. For example I'll be doing the bleak falls barrow quest, cross half the field in front of whiterun to get there, and have not a single CTD. I'll then travel to the western watchtower scott free. Yet after I when reach level 12 (my other save it took until 18 or 19 I believe), the CTDs begin! I can't walk half way to the western watchtower, let alone 30 meters out of whiterun without the game crashing. I don't have a whole ton of gameplay mods installed, only textures. Here is my mods and papyrus logs: Log: Mods (Boss Log): I think I'd be eternally grateful to whoever can figure this one out, I've had so many save with so many different mod combos fall ill to this CTD and it has kept me from even completing Dawnguard let alone Heathfires or Dragonborn.
  7. Well, welcome to the club. Your problem is not caused by crimson tide (I believe, I don't know all about that mod) but instead the file LvlPredatorScript.psc. I just found out about it after i got to level 14, and spent perhaps 3 hours working on making my character look just right. Turns out if you install a mod that changes that script (like skytest) and then uninstall it, the game will CTD when it tries to tinker with animals. Worse off, if you are like me and don't remember what mod you installed that could cause it, the only fix is a new game. If you do know the mod, you can load back to a save before you uninstalled the mod, reinstall the mod, and then continue as always - without ever removing that mod. So your best bet is a restart. I for one do not want to ditch the character I just spent hours making (It's how I get my fun in this game :p) so I will probably see if reverting back to the earliest save I have and then advancing quests will work. Or i'll just ignore it and never go outside again :p
  8. Well you wouldn't be able to shout or run into dragons until you slay the dragon @ the western watch tower. You also won't have the good old fus ro dah until after the greybeards. I went to that point and haven't done anything else for the main quest as I've already done it 7 times in the past few months xD
  9. I lost her when invading the Thalmor Embassy, and when I entered the cave at the end I walked out with the wood elf to find the frost troll on her body.... oops
  10. LOL that is the funniest thing I've seen in a while ;D Perhaps stand on a fire? I honestly have zero idea how that is even possible, it makes very little sense. It's as if the two meshes have merged... Are you sure it is an ice wraith? Not some spell that was casted on you or by yourself? How did this come to happen?
  11. Well it's definitely a mod issue, no doubt, the update didn't make powers cost magicka. If reverting didn't work, and uninstalling your mods didn't work, then you may just be out of luck and stuck with a corrupted save. If you have a save from before you updated, then you can revert the update back to when there was no issue, and then load the save from then. If you don't - well there's not much you can do about it. If you are successfully able to revert back to 1.7.7.0 and load an old save without any issues, but would like to update, you can try to uninstall the mod causing this while in 1.7.7.0 and then try to update. (side note, what mod are you using? I feel like this happened to me once but I can't recall what mod caused it)
  12. There is another thread covering this exact issue, here's the link. Page 7/8 cover this issue. Apparently in the lastest version of skyrim saving after the "dreamwalker" stage will CTD (which is where you are at in the mission). You have two options according to the thread: 1) revert to 1.7, finish the mission, then update 2) I Quote: Furthermore, one poster linked to the Uesp wiki (Link) in which at the bottom in the "bugs" section covers CTD, saving, and other issues/possible fixes if the above one does not help. Hope this helps!
  13. I'm not sure but this appears to suggest that mods you've installed in the past but have removed are not fully uninstalled (EX: scripts get left behind, replaced files stay "replaced", etc...) Are you using any other mods? I say this not to check for conflicts, as uninstalling the enb has proven this shouldn't be a conflict, but that you may want to backup your saves and redownload skyrim. If you do have other mods, however, there is a margin for error in terms that the save may not load even after all the mods are reinstalled. That's the best I can suggest with my knowledge but this is a last resort kind of thing as it is a bit risky.
  14. How often are they? I know I get CTD's quite a bit with a modded Skyrim, but even without mods it still CTDs. Any specific spots? I recently learned from the STEP project (It's a "mod suggestion pack") of a tweak to help stabilize skyrim a bit: In your skyrim.ini, add this line under [General] iLargeIntRefCount=999999 (Quote) "this prevents crashes when loading into a large interior area There are a ton of other tweaks to the ini's and Nvidia control panel included in the Step project, if your interested here's the link. (Note: it's not a mod, but a pdf in the downloads section, give it a read through)
  15. Run Boss, I just installed an ENB with realistic lighting and that fixed my issue. If that doesn't fix yours, have you removed the enb completely to see if your character will load?
  16. This is much more technical than my fix xD I use boss myself, but I haven't cleaned my masters as I find it very difficult. I will look up this video you mention, though, perhaps that will help me. EDIT: For the convenience of others here's the updated video (the description says he made a mistake in the old one):
  17. That all depends on which maker as each card will have a different cooling system installed. An example: This Card has 2 big fans installed and may run cooler (but no reviews so I have no idea) than lets say This card For the 6850, I second (triple?) the others and recommend the XFX 6850HD (I haven't owned it, I have a 670, but I've heard nothing but good of that card) I would stay away from the 460, most of the cards have bad reviews everywhere... Back to the question, though, more fans on the card doesn't mean cooler, keep that in mind. If your case has good air flow and runs cool, the card shouldn't get too hot either.
  18. (GPU) ATI cards can be funky at times with games optimized for Nvidia like skyrim, but as of the newest beta driver they work AMAZING compaed to the issues they've been having. I have a 2gb 670 and my friend has a 2gb 7850. My card performs a lot better, but that's because his is a generation old. You have a large budget, I build my rig (with $130 monitor) for $1283, so unless prices in Spain are a lot greater or this shop your going to is charging a ton for labor, try to bump up that card. I recommend a 670 or a 7950, both will do great and have a difference in MANY (not all) games of a few FPS. Another friend of mine just built a 660 ti system a month ago and he is happy with it, but it's not where he wishes it was. If your budget won't allow for a greater card (even a 660 ti) look into an ATI. They're cheaper and if you get a good 7850, you could overclock that card really well. Research will do you good there. (RAM) Unless you edit videos or have a strict need of 16 gb of ram, NO GAME WILL NEED IT. I cannot think of a single game that has used over 4 gb of ram and I have 8gb of DDR3-1600. Don't be fooled 16gb of ram won't increase performance, if anything it will give you a 16gb page file to suck up hard drive space. 2100mghz is a great speed, but if you could spend the money somewhere else save $20 and go with 1600 or 1800 as that won't give you as great of a performance boost in games (but again if you have a specific need for the speed go for it, or if you have a friend who has shown you 2100 mghz is worth it, go for it.) (Monitor) I suggest you order this yourself and save the fees the shop may charge you. What size do you want? I'm using a 21.5" and it's BIG (compared to my old laptop's 17") A lot of people like 23", I personally don't, but that's opinion. The most popular monitor on Newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236052 It's 23.6" w/ a resolution of 1920x1080 (It's 1080p HD) The delay is 5ms (you don;t want anything higher than 5ms or you'll notice a sort of "lag" while gaming) Out of 1,960 ratings, it has 1,467 five star ratings full of praise. I didn't go with this monitor as it was $169.99 and I didn't think I would like the almost-24"-monitor. I got this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00413PHDM/?tag=pcpapi-20 Saved about $30 and I have no complaints. These are my suggestions, keep looking for other opinions though. (Final Note) Honestly, that build should do you fine. 2gb of vRam fetches a nice hunk of HD mods, but I found myself needing to remove a few (like 8k rocks). If you really can't build it yourself then that's fine, but realize you can easily save hundreds depending on this shop. Like I said earlier I built my rig for $1283 and got a GTX 670 in along with a monitor and OS. From a first time builder and months of researcher, it really wasn't hard at all to build - no rocket science needed. But if you must order it, then that rig is fine with a few things to think about and I highly recommend either of the monitors I mentioned.
  19. I use Windows 8 (My opinion: Really like it). Windows 8 gave me a boost in performance, so I wouldn't say that is the issue. I installed it on a new build and my old laptop, the laptop used Windows 7. I see no reason to go back, as I've had zero issues. To the OP: 10 gb of ram is a very odd number, normally you see 2,4,6,8,16, even 12 but 10 I have never seen - could you give us some more statistics about this ram (speed, maker, a link if possible) Your CPU is fine, the GPU is a tad old, what was your old one (I ask because if your old computer had a newer mobile card it might outperform a 630). Can you specify anything else about skyrim? Any mods? What's your HDD rpm (unless you have a SSD)? Is there specific spots where FPS drops? Do you run any background tasks? Does your computer run hot? Is it possible your computer is using the built in GPU in your CPU? Any additional specifics would help greatly.
  20. I'm having an issue VERY similar to this, but with areas around Whiterun such as Silent Moons Camp and The Western Watch tower. I found that running (as in sprinting) into those places crashed my game. However if I walked I could get in just fine. The western watch tower had not graphic glitches and this fixed the CTD Silent Moons Camp wasn't even rendered and walking in VERY slowly I was able to not only clear it out but watch as it slowly rendered piece by piece. Not a very technical and perhaps not permanent (I've yet to find out) fix, but it worked for me.
  21. \ Dawnguard added dragonbone weapons, so installing the dragonbone weapon mod is not only uneeded but should cause conflicts. I use SMIM and that is surely not an issue, I have 100+ mods covering a range and it doesn't conflict. Dawnguard/Hearthfire shouldn't be an issue either. So i'm assuming the issue is what I mentioned above
  22. Here's a spit shot. Did you read the letter? (You mention many playthroughs, the attic room won't trigger unless you read the letter, which after many playthroughs you may have forgotten). Have you tried bringing the letter or loading to an earlier save? These "fixes" are plausible, but I wouldn't get excited - like I said, just a spit shot.
  23. I installed Proper Aiming via NMM before shooting the vid, so that didn't help much - good mod though :) I think the problem might be the buggy character/bow. The bow points backwards when I aim it straight down (0:27), and when I aim like 30-45 degrees down, the bow points downwards. It's almost the same in 1st person. I didn't notice that, but yes I have had that occur to me before but only in a corrupted save. It was solved when I started a new one, but that doesn't seem very plausible for you, does it? Not sure what you can do about it to be honest, sorry :(
